Can The Sex Be Hotter If You’re About To Break Up?

New York magazine’s “Sex Diaries” issue is on stands now and it’s a fairly entertaining read. The feature spotlights a number of different New Yorkers who have shared the details of their sex life over a period of days. The one that interested me the most was written by a 29-year-old expat living in Cabo San Lucas with her boyfriend, or, rather, her “future ex-boyfriend” (FEB) whom she’s about to dump in favor of moving back to the states. Her sex diary is an up-and-down tale of being angry and then sad and then horny, as she and her FEB fight and then f**k. “It’s the first time I’ve ever cried during sex,” she writes, “And the first I’ve also had such a strong orgasm come with it.” Color me crazy, but when I’m angry or sad with a boyfriend, the last thing I want to do is screw. But maybe I’m alone! A commenter on her sex diary wrote, “I totally get the whole knowing-you’re-about-breakup-makes-hooking-up-awesome-thing.” Do you get it? Have you had amazing sex with someone, knowing the relationship was about to end? [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

But Can You Walk In Them?

Talk about a test-drive. Recent fashion seasons have seen some of the highest heels on record, from Nina Ricci’s heel-less high-heels to Rodarte’s towering Frankenstein boots. They may be beautiful, but can real women walk to work in the seven-inch stilettos that sent some supermodels spilling on the runways? The ladies at New York‘s style blog, The Cut, pulled together some of the craziest footwear and found out what happens when you try and sashay down the street in them. “They’re incredibly uncomfortable,” one good sport reports. And as for those Nina Ricci heels? Forget about it — unless you like walking on your tiptoes. [The Cut] Keep reading »

Stephen Colbert Spanks Philip Weiss

There are so many reasons to love Stephen Colbert, and today’s reason is that he totally made Philip Weiss his bitch. Weiss is the writer behind that hateful New York story, “The Affairs Of Married Men”, which enraged me while I was on vacation. Colbert calls Weiss out, asking, “Isn’t there any chance that this is a sophisticated rationalization for being a complete a**hole?” Um yes. [Via Radar] Keep reading »

If You Never Promise To Be Monogamous, You’ll Never HAVE To Cheat

I’m on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina this week and that’s why I am really pissed at New York magazine for making their cover story in the newest issue be about something as enraging to me as men who cheat. Particularly men who cheat and BOO HOO don’t we feel sorry for them, because I just had to step away from the 1,000 piece puzzle I was working on to go off on a little rant about this topic when I should be meditating to the sounds of the ocean. Unfortunately, this piece, titled “What Makes Married Men Want To Have Affairs?” was so friggin’ annoying and depressing that I couldn’t help myself. Keep reading »

Frisky Quote Of The Day: Sarah Jessica Parker

“She would probably long for that earlier type of heartbreak versus what she experiences this time around. The disappointment and the loss is so painful because they’re grown-ups now, and it just changes, as we all know.” — Sarah Jessica Parker, on her Sex And The City: The Movie character, Carrie, to New York magazine. Best Show Ever, indeed. Gossip Girl is back on tonight, in a new time slot (8pm) on The CW (Catherine is still pissed). The show has a lot to live up to, considering this cover, those super horny OMFG ads, and that gay rumor. No pressure! XOXO! [New York Magazine]

What Clay Is Aiken To Tell You

Clay Aiken is back at it, answering questions about his sexuality — or a lack thereof, as he’s claiming now. In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Clay said he is asexual because he is “just too busy for a relationship” since his career is what he likes to do. Yeah, did I mention the interview was to plug his new role in a musical on Broadway? No offense to decorators and fashion designers, but jobs don’t get any gayer than theater singer/dancer/actor. Well, at least Clay will be among plenty of friends of Dorothy in the Big Apple. While he can keep masking his orientation, his guise is doing all the talking. Aiken everyday looks more and more akin to another gay music icon, David Bowie. I bet they have more in common than haircuts. See Clay, there’s a fan base out there for you! [ABCNews]

Falling In Love On The A Train

The whole Patrick Moberg, nygirlofmydreams.com thing really got our hopes up about the possibility of meeting someone on public transportation. It would be such a good use of time since we’re on a bus or subway almost two whole hours every day. So we got really excited about this article in New York about four real couples who met on the subway. One of the couples kept running into each other before they got together but didn’t date for a couple years after they first saw each other on the subway: “Then, in 1999, I went to the laundry room of my building and she was there. I said, ‘What are you doing here?’ She said, ‘I live here. What are you doing here?’ Our first date was at the Museum of Natural History, and we eloped to Iceland in 2002.” Awwwwww. Maybe we’d have more luck if we actually took out our ear buds so people could start conversations with us. [New York] Keep reading »
