Gorgeous clothes, tons of festivities, star sightings city-wide — what’s not to love about Fashion Week? Well, the prices, for one thing. We might fall madly in love with a dress right off the runway, but we’d be mad to shell out $3,000 for it, no? That’s why we’ve taken to the Internet in search of our favorite catwalk trends on a waaaaaay more reasonable budget. Next up, an easy-to-wear take on pairing florals and stripes from Peter Som … Keep reading »

New York Fashion Week is here, bitches! It’s time to prepare your eyeballs for weird accessories, fancy dresses, new trends, styles we can’t pronounce and fabrics we didn’t know existed.
Today kicked off the first of many NYFW runway shows where we got to take a sneak peek at the hottest ready-to-wear looks for Spring 2014. While there were certainly some ensembles resembling bathrobes and costumes that might be found in “Alice in Wonderland,” there was one trend from this summer that found its way into the spring collections: crop tops!
Though I could NEVER wear something baring my midriff unless I wanted to blind those around me, apparently the crop top has staying power! Who knew?! But which of these runway crop top looks is more “wearable” for the masses? Cast your vote above!
- Well, that’s one way to get fired: Phivos Lampros Istavrioglou (what a name), the head of international relations at French fashion brand Moncler, has been accused of one major art heist. He was arrested at JFK airport for the theft of ‘Cartel Des Don Juan Tenorio 1949,’ a $150,000 Salvador Dali painting (shown), from an Upper East Side art gallery last year. [Business Insider]
- Race relations are always a popular topic in fashion, thanks in part to the industry’s reputation for being maybe just the slightest bit obtuse. At New York Fashion Week this season, critics noticed that there was less racial diversity than ever. Jezebel crunched the numbers, and here’s what they found… [Jezebel]
- Rihanna has another collaboration to add to her roster, and it isn’t musical this time. Just a few days after her design collab with British brand River Island went down the runway, the controversial singer has announced plans to partner with MAC Cosmetics. Like, really partner — RiRi has signed on to have a hand in four distinct color lines set to launch throughout this year. I guess that’s what you get for wearing Ruby Woo almost every time you’re photographed! [Refinery29]
- You’ll recall that John Galliano made waves in his Hasidic get-up during New York Fashion Week. Writers at Conan got in touch with the disgraced designer’s brother Joe, who actually does wear Jewish hats. Like, real Jewish hats, trimmed with bagels, dreidels, aaaaaand a circumcised banana. Yeah. Watch it! [The Cut]
Rodarte’s runway shows are known for being innovative with beauty — after all, they brought us those gorgeous gold scattered star hair clips, and last fall’s Australian Outback-inspired makeup had every fashion girl clamoring for “dirty” skin and nails for the first (and likely the last) time. This year’s standout look is decidedly more refined, but no less stunning: hairstylist Odile Gilbert crafted soft, romantic interwoven braids and offset them with headbands made from barbed wire. Obsessed. Where can we buy? Just kidding, we’re headed to the hardware store after work for this easy, super-stylish DIY.
Hard to believe, but New York Fashion Week has come and gone. We saw models, celebs and general mayhem flanking the runways, while designers served up rather staid designs. Still, there were some definite highs — we’re thinking Honor, Marc and Altuzarra, for starters. Want a quick overview of what you might have missed? Peruse this NYFW video round up!
It’s always bittersweet when New York Fashion Week comes to a close. On one hand, editors and Fashion People citywide breathe a sigh of relief (not to mention regular people who just so happen to live near Lincoln Center); on the other hand, it significantly diminishes your chances of stealing a glimpse at Carine Roitfeld on 64th Street or spotting Karlie Kloss on the subway. Oh well, there’s always next season… or London, starting tomorrow. Finishing off NYFW Autumn/Winter 2013, we’ve got Naeem Khan, Oscar de la Renta, J. Mendel, Marchesa, Proenza Schouler, and Ralph Lauren…
Amazingly, Fashion People were undeterred by the foot-plus of snow we received this weekend, and New York Fashion Week carried on as usual. Total champs — we certainly can’t say the same about our weekend, which we spent contained safely indoors in front of the television. This is just a small selection from the many, many incredible shows that took place over the weekend and into this week. Let’s see what Alexander Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Victoria Beckham, Derek Lam, Zac Posen, and Marc by Marc Jacobs have in mind for the Autumn/Winter 2013 season… Keep reading »
