Album Drop: The Newest Releases From Eminem, Tori Amos, Iron & Wine, And Jarvis Cocker

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means. It’s new record release time! This week, skip right past Lionel’s Richie’s Let’s Go. Trust me, it’ll make you want to never listen to or touch any relics from the ’80s, your Madonna lace gloves included. Here’s what’s really going on now: Tori Amos confesses, Eminem relapses, Iron & Wine gives us a sip, and Jarvis rocks out with his Cocker out.

MUSIC

  • Ximena Sarinana Mediocre
The Mexican actress is from cinematic royalty, but with this album she truly makes a name for herself. Like a Latina Fiona Apple, her album of jazzy, seductive grinds translates even though it’s in Spanish.

Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of December 16th 2008

MUSIC

  • Fall Out Boy Foilex A Duex
Help Pete Wentz pay for diapers. You can even buy the record off the band’s MySpace page for $3.99 and it’s worth it. Tracks like “She’s My Winona” and the single, “I Don’t Care,” are poptastically terrific.

Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of December 9th 2008

MUSIC

  • Common Universal Mind Control
The Grammy Award-winning rapper has just released another rad set of rhymes. Produced by the legendary Neptunes and Kanye West, the disc also features cameos from Cee-lo. But even without all the big names to throw around, this record could be summed up in one word: HOT.

Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of November 25th 2008

MUSIC

  • Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy
Axl Rose’s anthemic rock voice still makes my panties wetter than the November rain. Chinese Democracy, inflated by all the hype and a very, very long wait, surprisingly lives up to its promise — even with the all new band line-up. “Better” has some of the sickest guitar squeals and “IRS” crunches the classic GNR sound. So, “This I Love” makes me think Axl wants to sing on Broadway, and his mid-life crisis frat bro meets Rasta look isn’t sexy, but the music is still solid gold. This is not an album GNR could have made in the ’80s when they were kids. It’s a bold, fresh, marvelous record that’ll bury Axl’s eccentricities and lift him up like the awesome rock star he truly is, even after all these years. Thanks for the free Dr. Pepper…and my new jams!

Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of November 19th 2008

MUSIC

  • Beyoncé I Am…Sasha Fierce
With this two disc release, Beyonce is all about fantasizing. She’s been slipping on her gling and calling herself Sasha Fierce. The first disc she’s still Beyonce, imagining what she’d do “If I Were A Boy.” Yet she’s got something to say to the gents, “If you like it, you should put a ring on it.” Hm, wonder if that’s the line she used on Jay-Z? But truly, the Queen B is going deeper on her record. Soft songs like “That’s Why You’re Beautiful” are atypical for the happenin’ hit maker, but they beautifully subtle, for once. As Sasha Fierce, on disc two, she throws the dance floor some bones with hot tracks like “Diva” and “Radio.” There’s something for everyone, from club bumpin’ “Say My Name”-esque booty jams to adult laments.

MUSIC

  • Taylor Swift Fearless
A few 18-year-olds are releasing records today, but she’s already been on the Billboard charts. Taylor’s new country album is about love, so I guess the title, “Fearless,” is appropriate. But I’m more excited to see what she’s planning on doing with Def Leopard.
