Forks, Washington: The Real Twilight Saga

In 2004, after “The O.C.” drew in a zillion viewers with its Seth Cohens and Marissa Coopers, MTV decided to launch a little reality show called “Laguna Beach” to show folks what it’s really like to be a teenager in Orange County. So it’s only natural that, after a million zillion Twihards tripped over themselves to see “New Moon” on opening night, that someone would think to film a reality show about what it’s really like to live in Forks, Washington. Today, producer Zig Gauthier is in Forks, holding casting sessions for just such a show. The show could follow students inside Forks High School, though (presumably) there won’t be any vampires or werewolves among the brood. Or it could focus on older Forks residents, as a rainy version of the “Real Housewives” franchise. I’m definitely voting for the former. There’s gotta be at least one girl in that high school who has assumed the name Bella, and every freaking school has an Edward. Hopefully, they’re dating. [MTV] Keep reading »

How To Look Like A “Twilight” Star

OK, so I know I’m really late to the party (actually, I once insisted I wouldn’t even show up), but yesterday I found myself at the movie theater, gobbling popcorn, absolutely transfixed by a movie made for teenagers. Taylor Lautner’s insane abs and hokey Harlequin-esque romance moments aside, I couldn’t help but notice how great of a job “New Moon” makeup designer Norma Hill-Patton did, making Bella look fresh as a daisy and natural-looking and, alternatively, the vampires appear as gorgeous and other-worldly as possible. Apparently, creating the illusion of perfect skin is the vital starting point. “Vampires don’t perspire, don’t grow facial hair, don’t get lines and certainly don’t get blemishes, so all the actors required a lot of makeup on their faces for long periods of time,” Hill-Patton explained, via a press release for Dermalogica, the brand of skincare used on set. “Breaking Dawn” To Be Broken Down To Two Movies?

The “Twilight” movies are turning into a saga for real. While the word on the street for a while was that the films would be a trilogy, Summit has just announced that it will be bringing the fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn, to the big screen. And the movie studio may be doing it in two parts. Huh, this is all about telling the story the best way possible and has nothing to do with the fact that “New Moon” grossed $481 million in the past two weeks, right? But as Variety points out, making “Breaking Dawn” a two-parter would have a high price tag. They’d have to renegotiate with Stephenie Meyer, as well as with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, who all know that they can ask for the pie in the sky. Folks predict that they could finagle eight-figure paychecks for the fifth film. What do you think—would you rather see “Breaking Dawn” in one fell swoop, or savor it slowly? “Twilight” Love Story Has All The Components Of An Abusive Relationship

One of the primary criticisms of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series is that the incredibly idealized love story between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen is actually, well, kind of creepy and pathetic. But an eagle-eyed blogger has noted that their relationship — beloved by teenage girls and their sisters and mothers — fits the profile of an abusive one. Blogger kar3ning of Captain’s Log compared Bella and Edward’s relationship against the National Domestic Violence hotline’s 15 signs that you may be in an emotionally or physically abusive relationship and discovered that, lo and behold, the glittery vampire and his devoted girlfriend were a match across the board.

Sex & Celluloid: What The Hell Is Wrong With Robert Pattinson?

I’m sorry; I didn’t see “New Moon.” I’m not even one of those too-cool-for-“Twilight” hipsters or anything, in fact, I read the first book in Stephenie Meyers’ Twilight series, saw the first movie, and actually thought, Wow I love vampires and they are attractive and I would like to have sex with them. But then I remembered I could just go watch “True Blood,” which is an equally guilty pleasure, but has a lot more grave-sex and, well, sex in general (thanks HBO!). But just to reiterate: I’m not anti-”Twilight,” and if someone asked me I would probably put myself on Team Edward, even though I might feel some underlying white guilt since, as far as I can tell, “New Moon” is a loose interpretation of the story of the original Pilgrims, what with the Native American werewolves fighting the European clan of vampires and what-not. “New Moon” star Ashley Greene visited “The Late Show with David Letterman” yesterday wearing an awesome pinstripe suit and debuting a new haircut. Before, Ashley’s enviable mane was way past her shoulders. Hairstylist Ted Gibson shortened it so it hangs right below her shoulders, then he used a flatiron to make it sleek and added Tame It Lotion from his haircare line to smooth flyaways. Ashley’s new style reminds me of Dakota Fanning’s chic midi-bob. I wish my hair would hurry up and grow! Keep reading »
