Things you shouldn't do while riding public transportation. Read More »

British journalist Bim Adewunmi has been in New York for the last few weeks and apparently taking the subway has driven her insane. Writing in The Guardian, she expresses the feeling in the most colorful way possible:

“Think of a book with an opening scene set in a village in rural England. There’s a winding country lane, and in the distance can be heard the relentlessly tuneful whistle of a milkman, and the gentle moo of a cow. Yes, there are still milkmen and there are still cows, but look closer: the cows are wearing smart white coats and jaunty little hats, delivering milk extracted from humans. Terrifying image, isn’t it?”

The women, which included his former legislative director, his former communications director, and another communications director who replaced her, claimed Gabryszak asked women to dress as sexy elves and sit on his lap during an office Christmas photo, grabbed one woman and tried to kiss her, invited them to hotel rooms, talked about their “sexual characteristics,” discussed penis tattoos, dragged one of them into a massage parlor, and sent another a video in which he was mimicking receiving a blowjob. Train In Deadly Metro-North Derailment Wouldn't Slow Down, Said Operator

At least four people are dead and 63 hurt after a Metro-North passenger train derailed on a curved section of track in the Bronx this morning, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says, according to the AP. Metropolitan Transportation Authority police say the train derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station in a “slow speed area,” and one passenger says it seemed to be traveling “a lot faster” than usual as it approached the sharp curve. The train operator, who was injured, told investigators he tried to apply the brakes but the train wouldn’t slow, CNN reports. Read more on Newser…
