I shouldn’t even have to tell you how important it is to go to the movies this week, because “Where The Wild Things Are” is finally here and you should be so frickin’ excited!!! In case you’re not into beautiful, fantastic movies and would rather be terrified, there is also “The Stepfather.” And if you’re just not in the mood to relive your childhood sense of adventure but want to see an awesome movie about relationships, “New York, I Love You” is also in limited release now, even though it wasn’t supposed to come out until February. Poor Catherine. For the last year she’s been obsessively waiting for the release of “New York, I Love You,” originally slated for last Valentine’s Day, but now being released sometime this fall. And what do you know? The day the official trailer and the first movie poster pop up on the web (or at least our radar), she’s out of the office! Well, guess she’ll have something to look forward to watching when she gets back.
The film is a series of vignettes by different directors, all telling a uniquely New York story, taking place in a different neighborhood or borough. The cast is stupendous: Natalie Portman, Rachel Bilson, Shia LaBeouf, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, Blake Lively, John Hurt, Ethan Hawke, Robin Wright Penn, Cloris Leachman, Drea de Matteo, seriously, the list goes on and on. The trailer for New York, I Love You was just released, and I am ever-so-slightly excited about it — even though it won’t hit theaters until February 13. I cannot believe they would tease us and then make us wait almost six months to see it. The New York version of Paris, je t’aime, New York, I Love You is actually 12 interwoven five-minute-long shorts that take place in all five of the city’s boroughs. While they used music that’s more than a little overplayed for the trailer (Mika’s “Love Today,” Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity,” and Feist’s “1234), it’s hard not to get excited about a movie with too many stars to list (Shia LaBeouf, Cloris Leachman, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Christina Ricci, Orlando Bloom, Ethan Hawke, Olivia Thirlby, James Caan, etc.). In fact, there are so many people in this movie, including Kevin Bacon, that the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon might be reduced to two or three degrees. Keep reading »
