Hangin’ Tough … With A New Kids On The Block Homemade Sweater

Necessity, and extreme fandom, are the mothers of invention, right? That’s exactly what prompted German mom Joanne Conklin to knit these totally out of control New Kids on the Block and Vanilla Ice sweaters for her teenage daughter. Before she knew it, she’d launched a full on NKOTB knitwear empire. “We were living in Germany at the time and bands like New Kids On The Block were huge with the teen set,” says Joanne. “However, there were no fan T-shirts to be found anywhere, so I decided to knit sweaters. I made one for my daughter, then her friends, and word-of-mouth spread and the next thing you know I’d knit over a hundred of them, selling all but about six of them.” And you can understand why. After all, these are no mere cableknit jawns [This will be the last time I allow Julie to use her obscure Philly slang in a post, FYI. -- Editor], but rather, works of Joey McIntyre-inspired magic. More sweater bliss after the jump! [Craftzine] Keep reading »

5 Style Lessons I Learned At The Backstreet Boys Concert Last Friday

Last Friday, my childhood BFF Brittany and I reunited to take a road trip to the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys concert in a city 150 miles north of ours. I say “road trip” but it was more of a religious pilgrimage to worship at the altar of AJ McLean’s facial hair (if you’re unversed in the BSB gospel, AJ is the bad boy of the group, and Brittany and I have been trying to get him to marry us since 1997). The concert was incredible, obviously, complete with dazzling pyrotechnics, dreamy harmonies, and Jordan Knight straining so hard to hit his high notes that I genuinely feared for his well-being. Over the course of this grand adventure, I learned a few lessons about style that will stick with me forever… Keep reading »

Jennifer Lopez’s First Gig Was Back-Up Dancing For New Kids On The Block

Last night, Jennifer Lopez sat down for an interview with Jay Leno and he asked her about her first dance gig. “I got a job working as a back-up dancer for New Kids on the Block,” she said. “It was dancing for them on the American Music Awards and it was a big deal. That was a long time ago.” Jay then informed her that the exact year was 1991 and that he had the video footage ready to roll. Above, check out Jennifer hanging tough with the guys. Keep reading »

The Backstreet Boys/NKOTB Single “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” Is Here

The Backstreet Boys/New Kids On The Block single is here! “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” is indistinguishably Top 40 and made for an eight-second clip on the next season of “Jersey Shore” as background music for Sammi and Ronnie being “on” again. Maybe two boy bands really are better than one. Pretty catchy, huh? [via NYMag] Keep reading »

Music Tour Matches We’d Like To See

We were squealing in the office this morning to find out that two of our fave boy band outfits — New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys — will possibly going on tour together — creating some kind of all-powerful mega boy-band monster. The tour could start as soon as March 2011, and they might even produce a joint single to mark the occasion. Our minds are exploding at the sheer force of so much choreographed dancing and hair gel.

We’ve assembled some additional musical pairings we think need to hit the road together. Who would you like to see team up? Keep reading »

Jordan Knight Has A Crush On Snooki

Jordan Knight was always my favorite New Kid on the Block. So I’m a little jealous that it appears that he has a crush on Snooki of “Jersey Shore.” The New Kids are performing in New York this weekend, and so Snooki wrote Jordan on Twitter, “Wanna meet up since your [sic] in town? We can finally fist pump together.” Jordan didn’t even try to play it cool. “I’d love to Snooks,” he wrote. “Lemme know. I’m all yours.”

Then radio silence from Snooki. So Jordan wrote, “Just so you all know …. I’m yours forever not just a few fist pumps.” Still nothing. So he typed, “Wow …. that sounded very dirty and very sweet all at the same time.” Snooki still hasn’t replied. Maybe Jordan should find her and serenade her with “Please Don’t Go Girl”? It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means—there are sweet new jams here for your listening pleasure. This week, Joanna Newsom drops not one, not two, but three discs of harp hits. So, let’s get into the groove after the jump. Keep reading »

How Loving A Boy Band Shaped My Life

I just celebrated my first birthday as a married woman. But instead of enjoying a romantic dinner with my husband, I was at sea with a long-lost crush who re-entered my life last year. My husband knows about him, and gave me his blessing to go with him on the three-day cruise to the Bahamas. He actually met the guy once, at a club on Canal Street six years ago. He’s been supportive of this reunion, even when I came home giddy from a night out with him, or when I flew to Portland, Maine, in March for a spring rendezvous.
