Okay, so most of us spent this past weekend celebrating the holidays with our families. But Natalie Portman, overachiever that she is, decided to get knocked up and engaged. She and hot fiance Benjamin Millepied met on the set of “Black Swan,” where the American Ballet Theater dancer served as her instructor and trainer. And thus far, that’s pretty much all we know about the gorgeous ballet dancer.
After the jump, we fill you in on everything you need to know about the man who’s hitched his wagon to the actress. Keep reading »
Natalie Portman’s “Black Swan” character may have lost her mind, but the actress can thank the film for gaining her a fiance and a baby. The actress’ reps confirmed to People that Portman and her boyfriend, Benjamin Millepied, are engaged and expecting their first child. The two met on the set of the film — which is garnering Oscar buzz — in which Millepied was both a choreographer and had a bit part (as the Prince to Portman’s Swan Queen in “Swan Lake”). Millepied had a girlfriend (another ballet dancer) at the time, but working with Portman so closely — she trained for five hours a day for a year — led to the two falling in love. Well, 2011 is certainly looking to be an exciting year for the actress. Mazel tov! [People] Keep reading »
“Your Highness,” the James Franco
, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman
, and Zooey Deschanel
flick that opens this spring, looks like it’s posturing to be the new “Princess Bride.” Judging from the trailer, it also looks like it’s going to fall way short. But that’s not the point. Apparently, the original trailer—which you can see here
—contained cursing and Natalie Portman’s bare backside in a g-string, and thus could only be shown before R-rated movies. And so this second version of the trailer was created. And in addition to cleaning up the language, they’ve added fabric to Natalie’s thong, morphing it into a normal bikini. Fascinating, as CGI nudity
usually goes in the other direction. [EW

“I swear, I eat. I ate a bagel an hour ago. … I consume my own weight in hummus every day. I cook a lot, and I even do vegan baking. I like pleasure, I like joy. I’d never get to the point where I would starve or injure myself like [my character] Nina does. I’m the opposite—when I’m hungry, I eat, and I always make sure I’m eating something delicious.”
—Natalie Portman, brand new Golden Globe nominee for her role in “Black Swan” in which she dropped 20 pounds from her already petite frame to play a prima ballerina, assures Vogue she does not share her character’s unhealthy eating disorders. That’s great, but as much as vegan Portman says she likes joy, she can’t be experiencing it to the maximum if she’s not allowing herself some cheese now and then. It’s what makes the world go ’round! I’ve had good sex and bad sex, but there’s one thing I’ve never had: solo sex. That’s right: I’m a 34-year-old woman who has never masturbated. I know it sounds crazy. Many people swear that masturbation is a critical part of being a sexually satisfied woman, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to do it. This came up recently while watching Natalie Portman go to town with herself in “Black Swan.” Self-love just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. My vagina and I just aren’t that close.
As a feminist, I rationally understand that I’ve in some ways internalized the social stigmas around female sexuality, and I don’t know how I’ll ever get over them. I just don’t want to have that kind of interaction … with myself.

“Black Swan” is a great movie. It’s also, as Julie put it, “eating disorder porn.” In the movie, Natalie Portman‘s character not only shows signs of anorexia—she’s also bulimic. I had hoped this wouldn’t seem glamorous to teens and women seeing the movie since, well, Natalie’s character also totally loses it in a downward spiral. But apparently that’s not the case. Just now, searching for images from the movie, I found one—at a site called “Thinspo Me Baby” on Tumblr, along with the caption, “Get your thinspiration from the upcoming movie Black Swan!!!” Another search brought me to Superskinnyus.blogspot.com. And another to Mydailythinspo.blogspot.com. Looks like pro-ana websites all over are looking to the movie. Super sad. Keep reading »
“He knows how to change when things aren’t working well. Sometimes I just couldn’t do something. No matter how hard I worked, I couldn’t do it. He would fix it to make it something that I could do. He was really flexible. Working with film and working with actors rather than dancers, that flexibility was key.”
—Natalie Portman on her boyfriend, “Black Swan” choreographer Benjamin Millepied (far left). This is one of those quotes where I want to add “in bed,” like you do to a fortune cookie. After all, Benjamin is a dancer. [People] Keep reading »
Even if you don’t like ballet, it’s been said that “Black Swan” makes it cool. The makeup alone is worth the price of admission and a small popcorn.

“Black Swan,” the ballet thriller which opens this weekend, looks like it’s going to be two things: A) amazing and B) deeply twisted and disturbing. So it’s hard to imagine that life on the set—helmed by director Darren Aronofsky, the dude who brought you “Requiem for a Dream”—was all kittens and rainbows. But as more information gets out about the atmosphere on set, it sounds even more intense than I’d imagined. After the jump, tales from the making of “Black Swan.” Keep reading »
