WELL PLAYED

Did you watch modeling competition “The Face”? I have a couple of episodes to catch up on — so don’t tell me who won! — but it’s so much fun to watch — mainly because Naomi Campbell is a bit batcrackers, and fellow judges/coaches Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova play such good straight women to Campbell’s attendant rage problems. Anyway! I like this layered look from Kurkova. She’s channeling a bit of a witchy vibe, especially with those what-look-like Rick Owens boots and brimmed hat. Best of all, despite her being a supermodel, I feel like regular ladies could pull of this look, too. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

The Face

Have you been watching “The Face”? If not, check it out. It’s a modeling competition, yes, but unlike any others out there. Each contestant is paired with a mentor — Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha or Naomi Campbell — and competes against models on the other mentor’s teams. The challenges are real world and the products, stylists and brands the girls work with are first rate, unlike some (ahem) other, jankier reality TV model competitions.

So far in the season, the group of 12 girls has been whittled down to six — Stephanie, Margaux, Jocelyn, Zi Lin, Ebony and Devyn.  The Frisky was lucky enough to speak with Jocelyn of Team Naomi, Stephanie of Team Coco and Ebony of Team Karolina, and while they wouldn’t answer questions about Naomi’s temper tantrums, (which really says it all, eh?), they did give us the scoop on challenges, eliminations — and what Nigel Barker really smells like.

And don’t forget to catch “The Face,” Tuesday nights at 9/8 c on Oxygen.

Late-night reruns of “The Cosby Show” were my jam circa 2007, so naturally I am well-aware that Naomi Campbell appeared on the beloved sitcom… but were you? The stunning British supermodel, then 18 (that means pre-multiple assault charges, pre-blood diamonds, and even pre-babywoman), played Julia, a gorgeous (duh) classmate of Theo Huxtable. In this clip, she totally shuts down her study group’s interpretation of the patriarchy, and it is awesome. Watch it in its entirety (8 minutes spent watching an excerpt from “The Cosby Show” are 8 minutes well-spent, I always say) or skip ahead to 2:40 to see Naomi in all her glory. If you, like us, have been feeling like the latter seasons of “America’s Next Top Model” have been a little gimmicky and lackluster, well, we’ve got a new show for you — one with three times the Tyra Banks star power. “The Face” is a modeling competition show, but unlike “ANTM,” the models will be split into teams, coached and trained by supermodels Naomi Campbell, Coca Rocha or Karolina Kurkova. Plus, it’s hosted by Noted Fashion Photographer (and baby seal enthusiast) Nigel Barker, so what’s not to love? In any case, Naomi, Nigel and the gang premiere tonight at 10/9 c on Oxygen. We’ll be watching/gawking.

Admit it: “America’s Next Top Model” has gotten stale over the last five zillion “cycles.” As much as we love Tyra there’s only so much of her histrionics and ridiculous, over-the-top photoshoots (Be a bear! Pose with a tarantula! In the snow!) we can take. And the Oxygen network is banking on that, by introducing its new modeling reality show, “The Face.” Hosted by “ANTM” castoff Nigel Barker, and featuring Tyra Banks’ evil cousin Naomi Campbell, plus modelstars Karolina Kurkova, and Coco Rocha, “The Face” has 24 contestants competing to become the new face of Ulta beauty. Naomi Campbell Would Like To Pump Your Gas

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is no stranger to controversy. Her resume includes cell phone beat-downs and blood diamond controversies. Surely, her new ad campaign for Dennis Basso furs will start the fur flying all over again amidst the politically correct fashion set. Of course, if you are a fan of copious gasoline consumption and wearing fur, you will like it just fine! In one shot, the model-as-gas-pumper has forgotten her shirt, and in another one she has forgotten her pants. (I hate it when that happens.) We’re not sure what Campbell is trying to do here, but if it’s further tarnishing her public image, she is doing a fine job. So congrats on that, Naomi. [The Cut] Keep reading »
