Get Nailed With Miss Pop: Top 7 Neon Nail Polishes

In the summer, I’m all about neon toes. I’ll spare you the shot my hooves, because I love you. Here are all of my favorite day-glos on my hands. As I’ve hunted for the most saturated shades, I’ve seen some serious clunkers — even from some of my fave brands. Neons are hard pigments to get popping in nail polish form. Like all lacquers, some are better than others, but with day-glos, so many fall short of even being wearable. Who has time to apply five coats, let alone wait for them to dry?! So, I wanted to separate the men from the boys, so to speak. Here are the best and the brightest colors you can do up your digits with!

TIP: Before you apply neon polish, do a coat of an opaque nude or white to help the color really glow. In this hot shot, I’m sporting my favorite nude, Paul & Joe #25.

The 15 Best Nail Art Blogs

One of the best things about being online editors is that we get to spend hours perusing the web for inspiration (even though this may not be best for our eyesight or posture). Nonetheless, there are tons of budding makeup, hair and skincare ”experts” sharing their straightforward reviews and in-your-face tutorials. Impressed by their serious skills and online superstardom, we’ve decided to round up the best beauty blogs.

This week, we’re kicking things off with the crème de la crème in DIY nail art. From Miss Ladyfinger (who can transform any runway design to her digits) to London’s WAH Nails (famous for their mani mash-ups), you’ll get motivated to switch up your average manicure.

Now and again, you want something a little special for your nails; a boring regular manicure just won’t do. Which is why we recommend you try Ciate’s new Velvet Manicure, a special treatment for your nails that leaves them feeling velvety soft. The manicure comes complete with a soft, powdery substance that you’re supposed to coat your nails in as they dry. The result is a manicure that’s almost fuzzy. It takes a moment to get used to, but after a day or two, we were totally sold on the effect. Give it a try and see how velvet soft your nails can feel, too. [$19, Sephora]

“Zooey Deschanel and I have been e-mailing all morning, like, ‘Can you believe the women that we are getting mentioned in the same breath as?’ Also, we’re planning our Emmy nails … She’s got a lot of nail style. I mean, I have a couple ideas, too … I want to shock the world with what I do, and/or be stopped from painting my nails a very strange color by my very smart and crafty publicist.”

— If you were wondering how Lena Dunham reacted to the news of her four Emmy nominations, well, now you know: she immediately began plotting her nail art debut. With help from her friend Zooey Deschanel, of course. As you do. [Fashionista via Vulture]

If you ask me, the best part about summer is all the seasonal ice cream shops that pop up. Even though I’m an adult (barely), I still can’t stop my cone from melting all over my hands. So, it seemed natural to recreate that drippy deliciousness on my fingers, this time with my collection of nail art stripers and Essie pastel polish. I’m especially digging the neon creamsicle color called “Action.”

Although Essie goes on smooth, I hit a few bumps, literally. My nails might look good enough to eat, but the oh-so trendy caviar should not be consumed. Little rolling balls do not belong on nails. I used them here to top my ice cream with sprinkles and I totally regret it. They’re cute for a couple days, but good luck getting them to survive a hot shower. We all scream for ice cream. Caviar, not so much.

Get Nailed With Miss Pop: Stud It Up!

Summer Nail Color Picks

This summer, I’m all about the studs. And not just the shirtless ones at the beach (although I would also like to get my hands on some of them too.) For my beauty expert buddies at Lifebooker, I bedazzled some series nail hardware. Check out editor Anna’s done up digits— hope she’s not going to try to get through an airport metal detector with these.

Here’s how you can have this hawt #GetNailedWithLB look! Paint your nails as per usual. Then bust out your nail art striper and draw lines across your nails where you want to stud.

To apply the studs you will need an orange stick, a base coat, a nail art sealer or bonder top coat and some studs you can find at a beauty supply store. First, coat your nail with your nail art sealer or bonder topcoat. Then, tap the tip of your orange stick into the basecoat brush to pick up a bit of polish. Next, tap your stick onto the stud to lift it up and place it down on the nail. Coat your nail again with the nail art sealer or bonder and boom! Your nails are more metal than Ozzy. Check out some more studded nail art styles above!

Paging Miss Pop: I need these nails, stat! The lovely Elizabeth of fashion and DIY blog Moveslightly combines my two favorite things in the world, beauty and cats, into one squee-worthy package. These kitty nails, inspired by a pair of Charlotte Olympia flats, aren’t just adorable — they also look pretty doable, provided you have access to nail pens and a steady hand. I’m not usually one for decorative nail art, but these I just cannot resist. How could you ever be sad or angry when you have ten little kitty faces on your hands? [Moveslightly]
