25 Everyday Things You Can’t Do After You’ve Painted Your Nails

We’ve all been there: it’s Sunday morning and that new Essie nail color is calling your name. You decide to paint your nails, completely forgetting that for an extended period of time after your mani, you’re unable to do a damn thing except sit still with your fingers stretched out in front of you like you’re a frightened baby animal. Even the most simple everyday tasks are impossible. Just gave yourself a fresh coat of “Ballet Slipper” pink? Do not attempt to do any of these common things. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Smith & Cult Nail Lacquer In Lovers Creep And Bridge & Tunnel

Beauty Test Drive: Smith & Cult Nail Lacquer In Lovers Creep And Bridge & Tunnel

I’ve been biting the hell out of my nails lately (disgusting, I know), which means I need to keep them constantly painted to prevent me from chewing. Since it’s the holiday season, I jumped on the chance to try Smith & Cult’s gorgeous holiday colors, a dark red called Lovers Creep and a shimmery gold called Bridge & Tunnel. I figured I’d get ballsy and layer the gold over the red, to create a cool effect with the nails. So did the polish live up to it’s pretty packaging?  Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Londontown Lakur Nail Polish, Base Coat & Hardener

Londontown Lakur Beauty Test Drive

I’ve been looking for a decent top coat for ages, so Londontown’s Kur top coat and nail hardener are more exciting to me than the line’s pretty fall colors. Here’s how things panned out…

More Honest Names For Awful Nail Polish Colors

I’m sorry, but when I walk into a nail salon and they ask me what kind of color I’m looking for, I’m not going to say, “Oh, I’m looking for ‘DJ Play That Song’ or ‘Too Too Hot.’” Those are not colors. Those are ridiculous names for nail polish colors that have nothing to do with their hues. BUT, if I were to ask for a mani in “Play-Doh Green,” EVERYONE would know which green I’m talking about (though I would never ask for that color, because ew). Here are 10 nail polishes I’ve stumbled upon, and their suggested, more descriptive color names.

Beauty Test Drive: Yotel’s Nail Polish Collaboration With Habit Cosmetics

Beauty Test Drive

Sophie and I recently paid a visit to Yotel in Manhattan to check out the quirky hotel chain’s new nail polish collaboration with Habit Cosmetics. Habit is known for their chemical-free approach to nail care, and their Yotel collection is no exception. The polish is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and 5-free. And, it turns out, it’s a pretty solid polish option too. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Nails Inc. Matte Top Coat

Matte Nail Polish

When I first got my hands on a bottle of Nails Inc. Westminster Bridge Matte Top Coat, my first question was why anyone would even care whether their nails were matte. The matte trend has come around several times these past few years, but it never really made any sense to me. Most of the polish I use isn’t all that shiny to begin with, so wouldn’t a matte look just dull it down even more? After trying this top coat, though, I’m definitely a fan. There’s something understated and chic about a matte nail. Keep reading »
