“Zooey Deschanel and I have been e-mailing all morning, like, ‘Can you believe the women that we are getting mentioned in the same breath as?’ Also, we’re planning our Emmy nails … She’s got a lot of nail style. I mean, I have a couple ideas, too … I want to shock the world with what I do, and/or be stopped from painting my nails a very strange color by my very smart and crafty publicist.”
— If you were wondering how Lena Dunham reacted to the news of her four Emmy nominations, well, now you know: she immediately began plotting her nail art debut. With help from her friend Zooey Deschanel, of course. As you do. [Fashionista via Vulture]
Happy “Breaking Bad” Season Premiere Day! I’m pretty sure this “BB”-inspired manicure would look amazing with a hazmat suit. [Deviant Art]
This summer, I’m all about the studs. And not just the shirtless ones at the beach (although I would also like to get my hands on some of them too.) For my beauty expert buddies at Lifebooker, I bedazzled some series nail hardware. Check out editor Anna’s done up digits— hope she’s not going to try to get through an airport metal detector with these.
Here’s how you can have this hawt #GetNailedWithLB look! Paint your nails as per usual. Then bust out your nail art striper and draw lines across your nails where you want to stud.
To apply the studs you will need an orange stick, a base coat, a nail art sealer or bonder top coat and some studs you can find at a beauty supply store. First, coat your nail with your nail art sealer or bonder topcoat. Then, tap the tip of your orange stick into the basecoat brush to pick up a bit of polish. Next, tap your stick onto the stud to lift it up and place it down on the nail. Coat your nail again with the nail art sealer or bonder and boom! Your nails are more metal than Ozzy. Check out some more studded nail art styles above!
America, land of the free, home of the brave DIY nail artists like you, gurl. So, get out your metallic polishes because we’re gonna salute this nation. And what better way than with some sparkly firework fingers?
Paging Miss Pop: I need these nails, stat! The lovely Elizabeth of fashion and DIY blog Moveslightly combines my two favorite things in the world, beauty and cats, into one squee-worthy package. These kitty nails, inspired by a pair of Charlotte Olympia flats, aren’t just adorable — they also look pretty doable, provided you have access to nail pens and a steady hand. I’m not usually one for decorative nail art, but these I just cannot resist. How could you ever be sad or angry when you have ten little kitty faces on your hands? [Moveslightly]

I’m baaaaaaack! You know I could never really leave you, baby. So you can catch me, Simcha — also known as Miss Pop Nails — doing up digits every week exclusively for The Frisky. Each Wednesday, aptly nicknamed Hump Day, I’m going to be showing you how to Get Nailed with my hawtest new nail art looks. Are ya’ll ready for this?!
To get this nail art party started, I did a “Mad Men”-inspired design on our absolutely fabulous Astrosexologist Kiki T. We’re both excited for the season five finale this weekend. But alas, it is bittersweet because they— spoiler alert— killed off my favorite character Lane Pryce, played by Jared Harris. Tear! So my tribute nail to him is front and center because he should always be the star.
Order of Nails: Mad Men cigarette hand, Mad Men opening credit shot where he’s falling down the building with the totally sexy leg on it, Lane Pryce, Season 5 ad, and a pinky with the most popular thing on set second to Joan—scotch.
I am not qualified to talk about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, because I know literally nothing about it except for this very factual article I read on Vice. What can I say? I’m incredibly American in my ignorance. But oh my god, you guys, a royal wore nail art! Okay, so it was Princess Eugenie of York, which isn’t quite the same thing as, say, Duchess Catherine breaking out the Color Club, but still. Eugenie complimented her purple dress with a Union Jack on all 10 of her digits in honor of her grandmother’s, um, anniversary. Of something. It’s a cute idea, but I think it looks poorly executed and frankly, kind of gross. Thoughts?
