A Top Notch Top Coat

Having a manicure is kind of “my thing.” I very rarely have bare, unpolished nails for longer than a day or two, and my bathroom cabinet is stocked with polish colors I love. Unfortunately, “my thing” can be a bit of a pricey luxury, as getting a manicure once a week adds up! Recently, however, I’ve started doing my own nails and have been going to the nail salon less — and thanks to Revlon’s Liquid Quick Dry, I don’t have to spent 20 minutes trying to dry my handiwork (pun intended!) under the blowdryer. I am not overstating when I say this top coat protects against chipping almost instantly. I am not entirely sure how it works, but it’s more liquid-y than most topcoats and contains mineral oil that’s good for moisturizing the nail beds. I have been let down by many a top coat before, but this one, I swear to you, is an impatient gal’s best friend. [$5.75, Drugstore.com]

Check Out Adele’s Awesome Louboutin Manicure!

Adele Sings!
Watch her perform "Rolling In The Deep" at the Grammys. Watch »

I noted in my Best Dressed slideshow that Adele look flawless at last night’s Grammy Awards, but seriously, even her nails were perfect! The singer had her long nails painted a glimmer-y silver, with the undersides a deep red, just like a pair of Christian Louboutin heels. Awesome! [Styleite]

Would You Wear … Translucent Nails?

Okay, so I’ll admit, I’m not totally sold on these translucent nails, which are being touted in a lot of the Spring 2012 ads. Mostly because they look an awful lot like the fake nails you can buy at the CVS. I mean, I’m not against fake nails at the CVS — lord knows I’ve bought enough of them. Howevs, this just kind of seems like you’re asking for them to get dirty. Really, really dirty. And unless you have a non-finger-involved job, or can afford fork holders,  you’re going to be washing your hands an awful lot. I say no, but what about you? Would you wear ‘em? [Madamenoire]

20 Incredibly Festive Christmas Manicures

An At Home Manicure That Just Gels

I love having a manicure, but get bored at the nail salon, so I was thrilled about Red Carpet Manicure’s new At-Home Gel Manicure line. The line, which includes a LED light to help set your gel polish, gives you everything you need to do your own gel manicures at home. Why bother with gels? They last much longer — up to two weeks — and won’t chip and crack like regular manicures. Buying everything you’d need to do it at home will cost around $80, which is equal to about three salon gel manicures, so it’s totally worth it. Plus, Red Carpet already has more than 20 great colors, with more coming this winter! Gel on!

Nikki Reed, Your Obsession With Your Fiance Is Freaking Us Out

How much does “Twilight” star Nikki Reed love her fiance, “American Idol” also-ran Paul McDonald? Enough to put his visage on her fingernails. All of them. She wore his face on her fingers to this past weekend’s Teen Choice Awards. I imagine that she meant as a sweet gesture, but somehow, it seems kind of creepy. Like, what if she picks her nose with her fiance’s face? Or unwedges her underwear from her butt with two Paul McDonald-clad fingers? Paul McDonald, did you put her up to this? Or are you two just really crazily obsessively that much in love with each other? I mean, most people just put pictures of their significant others on their phones, guys. [Celebuzz] Keep reading »

Pink Parka Your Paws

Two of my guilty pleasures: pretty personal style blogs and nail polish. Often these two things go together, as I end up discovering nail polish shades I might not have considered upon the manicured hands of chic ladies whose looks I covet. Case in point: for the last few weeks, I have been trying to find a nail salon that carries this exact shade of hot pink after seeing it on one of my favorite style blogs, Could I Have That? Thus far, I have been bitterly disappointed because apparently it was discontinued. Luckily, I have been able to find it on the web, so I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy a bottle for myself. Uh, please save one for me, okay?

Nail Tattoos: A New Thing You Can Do To Your Nails

Manicures and nail decals are so over. Enter the next big thing: Nail tattoos. Our Philadelphia buddy Jacci, who runs the blog Being Perfect is Hard, hit upon the idea and met up with a local tattoo artist friend recently to get her nails tattooed. She drew a variety of cute and quirky designs and had them tattooed directly on her fingernails. “I chose a bunch of my favorite things which include Bart Simpson heads, a Wu Tang symbol, a Chanel logo, a diamond, an eye, a pizza slice, a smiley face, a dollar sign and a heart.” But did it hurt? No, says Jacci, who also explained that the art is semi-permanent, as in, it’ll last only until your nails grow out, so if you get bored, you can simply paint over the designs. The tattoo process itself took around 35-40 minutes for all 10 nails, and cost Jacci around $60. And this is why Philly girls rule so much. [Being Perfect Is Hard] Keep reading »
