Sometimes, a great manicure simply isn’t enough. Why settle for awesome nails when you can have that and stylish cuticles, right? I’m going to have to assume that was the line of thinking when cuticle tattoos were first created. They’re pretty much exactly what they sound like — little pieces of below-the-nail art that are reminiscent of those press-on tattoos you loved in your ’90s youth.
From what I can tell, Rad Nails was the first brand to bring cuticle tattoos to the party, and Ciaté came along shortly afterward with their own rendition. I have to admit, I like Ciaté’s twee style a bit better (I’m a sucker for bows), but I think Rad Nails’ designs would look less bizarre on an actual hand. Keep reading »
“Mirror mirror, on, the wall, who has the top Dogg manicure of them all?” The answer to that question would be Snoop Dogg (or is it Snoop Lion?), who showed off a set of new black and white French tips at his fave nail salon in Long Beach, Hey Nice Nails. And he’s getting into decals too, I see. Lookin’ fresh, dressed and like a million bucks, Snoop! See one more pic after the jump! [People] Keep reading »
Y’all know how I generally feel about over the top holiday nail art. However, for Valentine’s Day, I make an exception. V-Day is a holiday that basically exists for nail art. Actually, nail art basically exists to celebrate V-Day. Whatever. The point it, if you’re going to go really buck wild wild with your manicure, Valentine’s Day is the day to do it, whether you’re single or coupled. Here are 20 manicures to inspire you this V-Day…
Squeedorable calico cat Pudge is far and away the world’s best Internet cat and that is not up for discussion. So you can imagine my thrill that Pudge and her human now have a DIY series on YouTube called “Pudge It Yourself!” The first DIY is cute kittycat nail art, which work like temporary tattoos. All you need is a printer, adhesive paper scissors, and light nail polish colors. If you don’t own a printer, you can also get your Pudge nail art decals for $5 straight from the Pudge store. Yes, there’s a Pudge store. [YouTube]
Hey girl. Bad news. Your heavily decal-ed, excessively red-and-green, badly doodled nail art is ruining Christmas. Not to be a Scrooge, but that melty-faced Santa on your thumb might as well be a lump of coal in my stocking. I’m all for getting in the holiday spirit and if you’re headed to an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, by all means, do your nails up to match — but don’t you dare fool yourself into thinking these 30 manicures are anything but ho-ho-ho-horrrrrible.
It needs to be said: nail art, especially around the holidays, goes too far. Little pinky Santas and toe-thumb Rudolphs or all 10 fingers painted to look like wrapped presents, complete with glued-on bow decals. It’s too much! Can we take these down a notch and embrace nail art that’s actually, I dunno, pretty again? It’s not hard! Look, I found 34 festive, glitter-y, fun holiday manicures to inspire you.
Maybe you work in office that frowns on Halloween celebrations. or anything else remotely fun. Or maybe you think nail art is too out-there and are waiting for a festive occasion when it’s OK to look costume-y. Or maybe you just want to look like you have slime dripping of your fingernails. Well, ladies, you’re in luck! I’ve poked around on Pinterest (such a grueling job I have) to find some of the funkiest Halloween-inspired nails. Some will require the expertise of your manicurist, while others you can figure out in your own bathroom. Just make sure no one shouts “BOO!” while you’re trying to do your nails, okay?
Nail art blogger Varnished Valkyrie always wanted to see what would happen if she layered her nails with as much polish as she possibly could, and one night she finally got bored enough to actually do it. Here’s the finished result: 53 coats deep. It’s weirdly impressive, right? Random thought: I might need to add 23 more manicure ruining tips to this list, just to keep up with this rapid progress.
