There’s a love of natural medicine … and then there are the people who are so into natural medicine that they end up on TLC’s “My Strange Addiction.” Margaret, 53, is one of the latter. She’s been treating her arthritis with fresh-from-the-honeycomb honey bees, which she forces to sting her by holding them against her skin with giant tweezers. And she does this 15 TIMES A DAY. (I don’t think there’s anything I do 15 times a day, not even think about Clive Owen naked.) Margaret’s favorite places to sting herself are on her forehead, tip of her nose, finger, ankle, elbows and hip. She also insists 10 stings “makes sex great” although she didn’t divulge 10 stings where. Even with all this great sex and honey on tap, Margaret’s husband JD is not really sure about this stinging stuff. “At this point now, with 15 stings a day, that’s when I’ve started to get really concerned about this,” JD told “My Strange Addiction.” Hopefully these two can work through their differences and Margaret doesn’t tell her man to buzz off. Yesterday, I had dim sum and was feeling adventurous so I ordered chicken feet just because I was curious. Not exaggerating, one bite and I gagged. They were so gummy and gelatinous, I wanted to die. I felt nauseous for most of the day and into this morning. Sometimes, when I am disgusted by something, I try to find something that is even more disgusting to distract me. I found something! TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” is everything I could have longed for in a show and more. I am like a kid in a candy store grappling with toilet paper consumers, rock eaters, compulsive nail growers, and even pee drinkers. OK, so the pee drinking episode was really hard to watch. But most of the others … absolutely compelling.  So many odd obsessions, so little time. What are the chances they’ll start airing the show ’round the clock? Maybe they could feature Scarlett Johansson next season. Now that she’s off her strict “Avengers” diet, she’s going buck wild … with buffalo wings. “Oh my good [I am obsessed] with buffalo chicken wings, I am addicted to them … You will have to roll me down the red carpet next time you see me … I can’t stop eating them, I just can’t get enough.” That sounds like the makings of a great “My Strange Addiction” episode. In Round One of our Real March Madness, Carrie, the cancer-stricken woman who treated her illness with medically-unproven “urine therapy,” won the “Strange Addiction” matchup, while Courtney Stodden trounced Courtney Love in the battle of the Crazy Courtneys. Now the pair face off in Round Two. If they have anything in common, besides being nutso, I’d say it’s that both are extremely devoted to their crazy choices in life — Carrie stands by her decision to ingest urine through every bodily orifice, while Courtney Stodden married way, way older Doug Hutchison and hasn’t looked back. First, there is Ayanna, who is addicted to growing out her toenails. She looooooves her toenails so much, and has gotten them to crazy lengths. Beyond crazy lengths. But the kicker? Her toenails are only part of the problem. She’s got redonkulously long fingernails, too, that cascade down and curl around. How does this woman get anything done? I gotta be honest: the season finale of “My Strange Addiction” may be going too far. Over the course of the show, I’ve been weirdly fascinated by the various detergent eaters, tanning addicts, and nail talon enthusiasts, but a cancer-stricken woman who drinks and bathes in her own urine? No. Just no. Carrie, 53, has been drinking her own urine — as well as using it to bathe, moisturize, and brush her teeth — for four years because she believes it has helped send her cancer into remission. There is, however, no medical proof of this, as Carrie has not seen a doctor in six years. Obviously, many of the people featured on “My Strange Addiction” are contending with mental health issues, but Carrie’s seem extreme and this episode comes across as particularly exploitative. I hope she has since sought help from professionals. And I hope to never hear the term “aged urine” again. [TMZ]

We made our predictions for this season of TLC’s “My Strange Addiction.” We expected a toenail collector (apparently there is going to be a toenail addict this season) or a vinegar drinker (also, a woman who likes to smell Pine Cleaner … that’s close), but a moth ball snorter? No, we did not anticipate that. On this Sunday’s episode we are going to meet Alicia, a 45-year-old hairdresser who lives in Atlanta.

“I love the smell [of moth balls] … I find it irresistible and it’s hard for me to stay away from it for long periods of time … I always keep a stash somewhere so I can get a smell … I am so dependent, I can’t go more than an hour without the scent … I’ll just have to quit cold turkey and keep them away from my children,” she said of her ball habit.

I know, you’re thinking, What’s the harm in letter her sniff her moth balls? Well, they contain toxic chemicals, which can affect one’s health when sniffed in excess. WOW. [ONTD]
