Avril Lavigne Still Doing The Bratty Badass Teenager Thing

Avril Lavigne’s back with a video for her new single, “What The Hell,” a product placement-happy joy ride in which the punk-pop princess — now 26 — tries to outrun (and outdrive) her super hot, Brody Jenner-esque plaything. Why? I’m not entirely sure. We see Avril in her skivvies, playing basketball, and driving a taxi cab, before she finally hides out in a boutique which conveniently sells her own line of clothing, Abbey Dawn. I was never an Avril fan to begin with and I suppose it’s fool on me for thinking her musical stylings would mature into deeper territory, but, like, is there still a market for this? My head hurts. Is Pink’s Video For “F**king Perfect” Exploitative Of Cutters? Or Seriously Addressing Self-Harm?

Pink‘s music videos are nothing but provocative — and that’s why I love her. “F**king Perfect” is an angst-ballad about loving and respecting oneself, but the NSFW video, which appeared online yesterday, is all about a young women’s self-hatred. She snorts drugs, shoplifts, and in one gruesome scene, cuts the word “PERFECT” in her arm with a razor blade.

A friend DMed me this morning about Pink’s video, calling it “exploitation disguised as empowerment,” “highly uninformed,” and done for “shock value.” I agree that, standing alone, a woman cutting the word “PERFECT” into her arm with a razor blade is over-the-top and gratuitous. But in this particular video, with this particular song, it works. And I’m willing to forgive it being a little too gratuitous because I think she’s ultimately depicting a very real problem that young women experience. Keep reading »

Jena Malone A Stripper For Dirty Vegas In “Electric Love”

Jena Malone is one of those actresses I love but feel I never see enough of. Here, the “Donnie Darko” and “Into the Wild” star plays a stripper in a music video for Dirty Vegas’ “Electric Love.” The story line isn’t altogether clear (are they ever?), but one man seems to find Malone the object of his strange desire, whether she’s a stripper working the pole or a cowgirl doing the two-step. Note to guys: What this dude does to himself at the end, you really, really shouldn’t try at home. Keep reading »

Ricky Martin’s New Song & Gay Pride Video Is Astoundingly Bland

I don’t know what I was expecting from Mr. Easy Listening himself, Ricky Martin. But his new song, “The Best Thing About Me Is You” (with Joss Stone), is as bland as it gets. I can see a class full of kindergartners warbling this to their parents at the school concert. But the music video is interesting, especially for the newly-out-of-the-closet singer. It has gay couples, interracial couples and attractive people of all ages! I guess there could be worse things than a 45-year-old soccer mom 9-year-old girl finding this on YouTube and bopping her head to love, tolerance and acceptance. [You Tube] Keep reading »

Old-School Wednesday: Salt-N-Pepa Make Us Wanna “Shoop”

Ah, a sexy anthem about sexy sex featuring the fine ladies of Salt-N-Pepa. “Shoop” was totally our middle school jam–even when we had no idea what “shoop” meant. [YouTube] Keep reading »

Kanye’s Leaked “Monster” Video: Sexy Dead Girls, Decapitated Heads, And Other Violence Against Women

Kanye West‘s unfinished video for “Monster” has leaked online and it’s a disgusting display of gratuitously sexy dead women. In the opening shot, dead women in lingerie hang from nooses made of chains; the camera lingers on one’s stiletto heels. In a later scene, Kanye lies in bed with two lifeless models, moving one’s hand to her crotch like a rag doll. Later, Jay-Z raps with a woman lying lifeless on a couch behind him, ass up, and the camera lingers on her red patent leather f**k-me heels. But the most disgusting part of the video is when Kanye raps while holding a dead woman’s severed head in his hand. Keep reading »

Enrique Iglesias’ Dirty-Talkin’ New Single And Raunchy Video

That crafty bastard, Enrique Iglesias, has a new single out called “Tonight (I’m F**kin’ You)” — no, seriously, that’s the f**king title — and just released a super soft core video to accompany it, thus stealing my vote for Song of the Year. [There's also a "clean" version called "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)," but it's even less fun than the scrubbed version of Cee-Lo's "F**k You" ("Forget You").] Way to slip in from behind at the last second, Enrique. Watch the NSFW video (there’s nekkid titties and some sex noises!) after the jump… Keep reading »

Julianne Hough’s New Video Is “Kinda Banned”

Wait, did you know that Julianne Hough of “Dancing with the Stars” was a country music artist? I had no idea until I read the news this morning that her newest video, “Is That So Wrong,” has been deemed too, well, wrong for Country Music Television. They have apparently “kinda banned” the video, whatever that means, even though it’s pretty tame by recent standards. This means Julianne is now part of the elite club of musicians with banned videos. Congratulations, Julianne! Keep reading »

Emerson College’s Epic Lady Gaga Lip Dub

Lord knows, we love a lip-dub. Especially when they’re done by large groups of people–and especially to Lady Gaga. So you know we fell in love with this Gaga-ish one shot lip dub from Emerson University. So many jazz hands! [YouTube] Keep reading »

Andrew W.K. Rocks Out On “Silent Night”

I used to hate Andrew W.K.–his whole “party hard” schtick was really grating and annoying. And then I interviewed him a few years ago and found him to be one of the sweetest and most genuine rock dudes out there. I still don’t really want to listen to his music, but I get his appeal. With that in mind, I present to you Andrew W.K. doing the holiday classic “Silent Night” — in a way you’ve probably never seen before. [A.V. Club] Keep reading »
