Madonna has returned! The Material Girl has laid low for a few years, but the new video for her song “Give Me All Your Luvin’” proves that 30+ years after rising to fame, she still somehow looks, sounds, and even moves like no time has passed. That’s the extent to which I will allow myself to compliment the pop star’s recent musical debut.

I shouldn’t “hate” on someone who was just resurrected from the grave, but after watching the video, I am tempted to believe that Madonna may actually be a zombie trying to turn me by way of music video zombification. I was literally stuck in a trance-like, brain-dead state after exposing my senses to the neuron-murdering chant: “L-U-V Madonna, Y-O-U, you wanna” compounded by the confused high school football-themed visual diarrhea.  Keep reading »

Look, It’s Tavi In The New Wilco Music Video

Owing to a random train of events, Spencer Tweedy, the son of Wilco’s lead singer, made a music video with Rookie‘s Tavi Gevinson for the title track of his dad’s new album, The Whole Love. The video, which also stars Spencer’s younger brother Sammy, shows the kids sliding around on wood floors in their socks, playing on a playground, and building pillow forts. You know, the kind of stuff kids do when they’re not shooting magazine covers and making music videos. Read more and see the video…

Rihanna channels everybody from Alex in “A Clockwork Orange” to a cane-toting pimp in her new video, “You Da One,” which is all done in black and white.  The song is epically meh — her vocal inflections remind of stuff Gwen Stefani was doing 10 years ago. But at least the outfits are cool. What do you think? Keep reading »

All The Looks From Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night” Video

This week, Lady Gaga debuted the new video for her latest single “Marry the Night.” There’s a lot going on, and unsurprisingly, not all of it makes total sense — even taking into consideration that its story is clearly jumbled chronologically. Gaga plays a bedazzling, hair-dying, cereal-smearing, train wreck of a ballet dancer gone rogue, and at one point, little animated fairies appear to fly out of her butt. The Haus of Gaga certainly isn’t lacking for creativity, but still, this latest effort (all her own work, too) leaves many questions unanswered. Click through our slideshow breakdown of all the “Marry the Night” looks, accompanied by whatever explanations we could muster. Read more…

Check out the video premiere of Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night”!  If you think you’ve seen every artistic, emotional and physical angle of Gaga, as always, think again. Never failing to push her own boundaries, “Marry the Night” is a psychotic whirlwind hinting of “Black Swan,” “Flashdance” and “Girl, Interrupted.” There is the usual lush excess — ballet slippers with 8-inch pointers, a hat like Saturn, outfits to die for — but a more personal quality, as well.  Keep reading »

jessica lowndes I Wish I Was Gay

I don’t mean to be hater, but I don’t get Jessica Lowndes‘ “I Wish I Was Gay” music video at all. The title didn’t exactly lead with high expectations, but the content of the video is going to make this women’s studies minor’s head explode: She’s performing at a burlesque club when her cheating boyfriend shows up, she “punishes” him by hopping into his lap in a corset and fishnets, bending over to reveal her panties, and rubbing her boobs in his face. Yeah! Woo hoo! You go, girl! That’ll show him!

Rihanna’s “We Found Love” Video Seemingly Inspired By Chris Brown

I’ve been kind of “meh” on Rihanna for awhile now and not particularly inspired by her recent music or the way she’s illustrated her songs in music videos. By my tune has been changed by the just-released video for her super danceable song “We Found Love” — you know, the video which got her kicked off a farmer’s land for running around topless? Anyway, it is one of the best videos I’ve seen in awhile (well, okay, since Beyonce’s “Countdown”); beautifully shot, the video tells the story of a relationship we can only assume — thanks to the Chris Brown look-a-like, for one — was at least in part inspired by her own with Brown. Couple falls madly in love and initially has the time of their lives together; that love devolves into obsession and finally violence. The video has a hyper speedy energy that’s intense to watch, particularly during the scene where the boyfriend tattoos “MINE” on Rihanna’s bare butt. This, as far as I am concerned, is the best video Rihanna has ever done and “We Found Love” is certainly one of her more inspired songs. Consider me “meh” no more. What do you think of the video? [Who Say]

Beyonce’s “Love On Top” Video Is Hardly A New Edition

First of all, does Beyonce release a new music video every week? Just last week, she debuted the video for “Countdown,” yet this week, she has a new video for the song “Love On Top” — what happened to building suspense? Anyway, Beyonce can’t do anything without paying homage to someone, and this video is no different. Her inspiration comes from a somewhat unlikely place — ’80s boy band New Edition, which was of course fronted by a wee Bobby Brown. “Love On Top” is directly inspired by their video for “If It Isn’t Love,” from the setting (a sun-lit loft space!) to the dance moves. Somewhere out there Whitney Houston is saying “Oh, hell to the no!”
