10 Reasons We’re Thrilled That Chelsea Handler Is Hosting The VMAs

Last night, the amazing Chelsea Handler announced that she will be hosting this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, coming at you live from Los Angeles on September 12th. Why is she the perfect person for the gig? “This has been a huge year for hip-hop and rap, and it is well-known that I have the closest ties with these communities—musically and sexually,” Chelsea joked. “I am to rap and hippity-hop what Warren Buffet is to finance, minus the sex.” [EW]

We are insanely giddy over this news because we love Chelsea. After the jump, 10 reasons we’re thrilled MTV made this pick. Keep reading »

What Ever Happened To That English Chick On “The City”?

Hey “City” fans. Remember Louise Roe, Olivia Palermo’s Elle rival? (Seriously, that girl has one too many nemeses.) We know that “The City” was so scripted, but we were nevertheless fascinated by the introduction of the English TV personality … probably because her role in the show seemed the most contrived of all. C’mon, don’t you think Elle knew they weren’t going to use her, and that she was only hired to do a few episodes? To refresh your memories: Louise came in to compete with Olivia Palermo to be the face of Elle.com, but eventually “lost” because she had another offer in L.A. We guessed that this “offer” was either a work of fiction for the sake of the plot, or that Louise actually had another job from the get-go and everyone knew. Turns out the latter was right … Keep reading »

Lady Gaga And Eminem Top The VMA Nominations Tally

Yesterday, MTV announced the nominees for the 2010 Video Music Awards. And good thing Lady Gaga didn’t let anyone steal her creativity out of her vagina, because her over-the-top videos this year brought her a record 13 nominations. (Seriously, the people who’ve come closest are Missy Elliot in 2001 for “Get Ur Freak On” and “Lady Marmalade.” And Beyoncé with nine nominations last year.) Gaga is even competing against herself for Video of the Year—”Bad Romance” and “Telephone” are both nominated. Keep reading »

“Jersey Shore” Season Two Trailer: Miami, Catfights Galore And Vinny Gets Some!

Why do I keep watching this show about these terrible people? The “Jersey Shore” gang is back and this time, it’s in Miami! Ronnie is still a juiced up d-bag, JWoww still has the temper of an enraged rhino, and it looks like Vinny finally gets laid by Snooki and Angelina. It all looks just as offensive-yet-entertaining as last season, but seriously, MTV, where the hell is the duck phone? [MTV.com] Keep reading »

Rumor Alert: Has MTV Canceled “The City”?

Oh noes, Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo might have lost their fake jobs! Fashionista.com is reporting that MTV is canceling “The City” after this season. Rumor has it, MTV is booting Palermo off the network because she was cutting into Snooki’s pickle budget. Just kidding! We don’t know why “The City” would be canceled or if the rumor is even true. Frankly, we’re surprised the “Hills” spin-off lasted this long: Whitney Port has always been très boring, non? The only character we’ll miss is Kelly Cutrone, the People’s Revolution fashion PR girl. Thankfully, Kelly’s got her own show, “Kell On Earth,” on Bravo — but considering she’s one of Whitney Eve‘s biggest advocates, this won’t be the last we’ve seen of Whitney yet. Palermo, however, can crawl back from whence she came. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

“Downtown Girls” Premiere Recap: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Your Exes

MTV‘s newest reality show “Downtown Girls” debuted last night and finally we got to see for ourselves whether Glamour.com writer Shallon Lester and her pals are more or less annoying than “The Hills.”

What’s the verdict on “Downtown Girls”? It’s “Sex and the City“-tinged fluff full of model pretty women — but it’s a hell of a lot less awful than all of MTV’s other reality shows. And that counts for something … right? Keep reading »

Frisky Q&A: Shallon Lester, Star Of MTV’s “Downtown Girls”

I was not prepared to like Shallon Lester, the star of MTV‘s newest reality show, “Downtown Girls.” I mean, she’s on an MTV reality show, right?! These are the people who foisted Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt upon our unsuspecting souls. I prepared myself for MTV’s latest skinny blonde offering to the couch potato gods to be predictably detestable.

Alas, Shallon is not going to be the next reality star we’ll love to hate. At least not yet, anyway. Keep reading »

Woman Sues MTV For $5 Million, Says She Was Too Drunk To Give Consent To Appear On “The Real World”

A woman who appeared on “The Real World: D.C.” as a friend/possible sexual conquest of the housemates has filed a lawsuit against MTV claiming she was too drunk to give consent to be filmed. Golzar Amirmotazedi’s $5 million lawsuit claims she had 8 to 10 alcoholic beverages when she signed a waiver to appear on camera. Keep reading »

“Downtown Girls” = “The Hills,” “The City” And “Sex & The City” In A Blender

Did you watch this video of Shallon Lester, former New York Daily News gossip columnist, telling men she judges them by their jeans? Well, there’s more where that came from! On June 1, MTV is debuting “Downtown Girls,” a reality TV show about — wait for it — rich, beautiful 20- and 30-somethings who appear to live and/or party at a huuuuge apartment in downtown Manhattan. There’s Nikki the “rich girl”; Gurj Bassi, the “crazy Brit” (who’s on Twitter); Klo, “the slightly older, definitely wiser one”; Victoria, “the ditzy one”; and, of course, Shallon, who is now a writer at Glamour and “observes everything and tries to make sense of it all.” And judges men based on their jeans.

But hey, I’m not gonna lie: I’ll totally watch this crap. [MTV] Keep reading »

Infiltrate a group of youngsters with similar lineages, ply them with alcohol, and sit back while they exploit the worst stereotypes of their ethnicity/social class/cultural group.
