Today’s Lady News: MTV & VH1 Won’t Air Kanye’s “Monster” Video

  • Both MTV and VH1 agreed not to air Kanye West’s music video for “Monster,” which grotesquely eroticizes dead women, despite a new disclaimer about how it isn’t meant to be “misogynist.” I am sure he will find a way to write a song about how he’s been victimized by this. [Adios Barbie]
  • North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue vetoed an awful anti-abortion bill which would have required a woman seeking an abortion to wait 24 hours, receive counseling, and get an ultrasound before she could have the procedure. (Thanks, commenter LR52185, for the link.) [News-Observer]
  • Christine Lagarde, the finance minister of France, was selected to be the first-ever woman to run the International Monetary Fund today. She will replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who riddled the IMF with sex scandals and then was forced to step down after he was accused of sexually assaulting a New York City hotel maid. [NY Times]

Quickies: Kate Moss’ Wedding Registry Is Crazy & Peter Falk Passes Away

  • Kate Moss’ bridal registry for her July 2 wedding to Jamie Hince is only slightly less redonkulous than Kim Kardashian’s. Moss asks for a silk rug, Cristal champagne, and 14 different ashtrays. [The Sun UK]
  • Peter Falk, best known for starring on “Columbo” and playing the grandfather in “The Princess Bride,” died last night at age 83. [Huffington Post]
  • Rihanna angrily tweeted at MTV Canada that their report that she may have tweeted yesterday, “I admit, I provoked Chris to hit me. It was not entirely his fault. #imSORRY,” calling it “BS.” I guess this is RiRi’s way of confirming her Twitter was hacked? [PopEater

MTV Considers A New Series Called “Married Young.” We Say: I Do!

Confession: I am 31, and sometimes I feel like I’m not ready to get married yet—that it’ll still be a few years before I’m ready to sit down in a roller coaster car with someone, lower our safety bar, and ride the ups and downs of life together. (Yeah, that’s not my best analogy ever.) But different strokes for different folks—I mean, my mom got married at age 20 and has had a pretty awesome life thus far. What I’m trying to say is that I’m totally fascinated by people who get married when they’re 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21 since it’s such a big commitment to make at such a young age.

Apparently, MTV feels pretty compelled by this topic, too. They’ve ordered a pilot for a new series called “Married Young.” The concept is very similar to “16 and Pregnant“—the idea is to show teenagers put in a situation where they have to grow up fast. Keep reading »

The Situation Is Getting His Own Show On MTV

Lord, what have we done? Am I not tithing enough? Am I too mean to my mother? Is this because I kicked my parents’ dog when he was begging under the table during Easter dinner? Why, oh why, has The Situation been given his own TV show? Mike Sorrentino has signed a series development deal with MTV and will start filming later this year. Although no plans are specific yet, no good can come of this. Imagine all that booze-infused date rape-y douchiness distilled into one show.

Oh No, There’s A British “Jersey Shore” — It’s Called “Geordie Shore”

American culture is spreading throughout the world … spreading like herpes. Behold, a British version of “Jersey Shore” on MTV UK: “Geordie Shore” stars thickly accented lads and lasses Jay, Vicky, Gary, Charlotte-Letitia, James, Sophie, Greg and Holly — who says she is “fierce, flirty and I’ve got double Fs!” — in the northeastern city of Newcastle. It’ll air Tuesday, May 24 at 10 p.m. in the UK. British “Jersey Shore” proves the allure of fake tans, tube tops, and puking your guts out is indeed universal. But — serious question — do they fist pump?

Lauren Conrad Gets Animated In Credits For Her Show That Will Never Be

Lauren Conrad has had cameras following her every move and cutesy glance from ages 18 to 22. It sure looked like she would be continuing the trend when she announced in December that she would be shooting a new reality series for MTV, this time focusing on her fashion moguling. But apparently, MTV has nixed the show. “MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life,” Lauren said. “Sorry MTV didn’t feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it.” Which is code for: no you cannot film me and my boyfriend bickering over the merits of crunchy versus creamy peanut butter.
