Snooki To Ring In The New Year … In A Dropping Hamster Ball

MTV has found its magic ingredient to stay relevant in a post music video world—”Jersey Shore.” And thus, the cast of the addictively sleazy show will be front and center at 2010′s MTV New Year’s Eve Bash. The special has lined up a series of “Shore” stunts to get viewers tuning in. The biggest and most outlandish of which has to be the plan to put Snooki in her own ball and have her drop along with Times Square’s legendary orb to ring in the New Year, hamster-style. The rest of the “Shore” slummers have been assigned the task of turning the NYC crowd into a massive fist-pumping mosh pit in hopes of breaking a Guinness World Record. For what? I’m not sure. Largest public exhibition of douchebaggery, perhaps? [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Nicki Minaj Is A Total Badass

Last Tuesday, the baddest lady rapper in the biz, Nicki Minaj, dropped her new record. And Pink Friday has three of my favorite things: pink, Fridays, and sick rhymes. But behind those fabulous rhinestone accessories beats the heart of the best thing to happen to rap since Jay-Z came out of retirement. Yeah, I said it. Last night, I was glued to the bitch-tasy that was the MTV special “My Time Now,” which was all about Nicki’s journey from her hometown in Trinidad to her hustle in the studio. If you’re cable-less or forgot to DVR the magic, you can watch the whole show here, almost commercial-free. Move over pop tarts, nobody does diva quite like a rap mogul. Heck, she’s so badass she’s even made pink gangsta. All hail the new Queen Minaj! Keep reading »

Did MTV Steal The Idea For “Jersey Shore”?

Jersey Shore” may be the hot(tub)est show on television in eons. But one writer is considering legal action against MTV for ripping off his idea. Christopher Gambale submitted a treatment to MTV for a show called “Guidos: A Reality Series.” He wrote it and registered it with the Writer’s Guild of America back in 2006. The concept was to get together a bunch of guidettes and guidos, who Gambale described in the treatment as “a sad, pathetic excuse for a male; not necessarily of Italian descent, but most likely; usually native to the New York/New Jersey tristate area.”

“Teen Wolf” Remade For The “Twilight” Generation

Some things are sacred territory in my book–and the original “Teen Wolf,” starring Michael J. Fox, is one of them. Apparently, MTV doesn’t agree, though, because it has remade the classic ’80s flick with a bunch of angsty, “Twilight“-y teens. This version looks like it features more overly dramatic acting than super cool car surfing. Yeah, we’ll pass. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

Gay Porn Star Dustin Zito Joins Cast Of “Real World: Back To Las Vegas”

Today in Maybe, Possibly, Supposedly True News: my fave LGBT news blog, Queerty, reports that gay porn star Dustin Zito is in the cast of “Real World: Back To Las Vegas,” which MTV is currently filming. Hunky Dustin, 24, is allegedly a Lamar University graduate from Rayne, Louisiana (unrelated: the frog capital of the world), and appears on “Fratmen TV,” a gay porn website under the name “Spencer.” Pffft, like any frat could have that many cute guys in it! According to the reality TV forum Vevmo, Bunim/Murray Productions, which films “The Real World,” knows about Zito’s porn-y past and supposedly told him “before the show airs, the site he’s on is supposed to delete most of the content with him.” Keep reading »

GLAAD Chides “Jersey Shore” For Using The Word “Tranny.” But What About “Glee”?

MTV’s “Jersey Shore” had a bit of a situation with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for airing what they deemed to be “one of the most blatantly transphobic scenes aired anywhere on television in the last few years.” During this season of the show, The Situation was out at a club, chatting up a person he presumed to be a woman but turned out to be transgendered. Afterward, he and other members of the crew threw around the word “tranny.” Keep reading »
