Today’s Lady News: Newspaper Almost Apologized For Lesbian Moms Article

  • The editor/publisher of the Annapolis Capitol newspaper sought to apologize to readers in an editorial for featuring a lesbian couple in an article about Mother’s Day. “Unfortunately for us, we lost sight of what the readers want to read: feel good stories about people who reflect their values,” wrote Tom Marquardt, in an editorial picked up by journalism blogs. “Newspapers need to mirror its readers — all of them perhaps, but inclusion not at the exception of the majority.” Reporters and other staff objected to the sentiment contained therein — give the people what they want, even if what they want is bigotry! — and it didn’t run. Other recent polls by major news outlets have also found support for gay marriage hovering between 51 and 53 percent. [The Atlantic Wire]

Mother’s Day Style Stealer: Roseanne’s Relaxed ’90s Look

It’d be a little bit of a stretch to call Roseanne Barr, the star of the revolutionary ’90s sitcom “Roseanne,” a style icon. But we do love the laidback look of the whole Connor family, and hey, obviously the ’90s are back in a big way. So in honor of Roseanne as the queen of snarky moms, and Mother’s Day in general, we’ve cobbled together this Style Stealer look. Check it out after the jump! Keep reading »
