Frisky Rant: Kids Don’t Belong On Leashes

Frisky Rant: Kids Don't Belong On Leashes

On my way into work this morning, I had the displeasure of walking behind two women who, in each of their hands not clutching their coffee, held leashes that were harnessed to their respective children. Not dogs — children. The woman on the left had three kids, all on individual leashes, and the woman on the right had one child. All of the children appeared to around age five or younger. I am not a parent, and so I generally shy away from expressing my opinions about other peoples’ parenting choices, but if there is one thing that makes my blood boil, it’s parents who treat their children like they’re animals. “Your Holiday Mom” Provides Loving Messages For LGBTQ People Without Family Support

Your Holiday Mom

The holiday season means lots of family time, which means this is an extremely stressful, lonely time of year for people whose families don’t accept them. Unfortunately, for many LGBTQ people, living their truth means being shut out, judged, or mocked by close-minded family members. mom intends to breastfeed until child is 10

Leading the way in creating Mommy Issues For 20-somethings of the future, Maha Al Musa, a 51-year-old mom who told the UK tabloid New! that she plans to breastfeed her daughter Aminah until she is 10 years old. Yes, you read that correctly. She’ll be breastfeeding her child until the 5th grade.

Aminah, who is five right now, has been nursing since birth. Al Musa believes it helps Aminah’s immune system and insists that she’s healthier and calmer than most other kids. She also feels a special bond with her daughter: “The moment I felt that bond, I was instantly hooked,” Al Musa told The New York Post. Um. I get that breastfeeding is supposed to be a bonding experience and all, but isn’t this kind of taking the “helicopter parent” thing too far? Keep reading »

Motherhood is one hot topic. From magazine covers that pushed people’s buttons to daily headlines on both news and gossip sites, moms were praised, targeted, and questioned.
