BB cream is one of those makeup products that just appeared on the American market in the past year, causing every woman here to scratch her chin and say, “Hmmm, do we really need this?!” BB cream is basically a combination foundation/moisturizer/primer and sometimes it’s got sunscreen in it, too.  Some people swear by their BB cream. I know a few ladies who go nuts for Garnier BB cream, for instance. So when The Body Shop sent the The Frisky a few shades of their new All-In-One BB Cream to test drive, I just had to pick it up. While I’m not a full-on BB cream convert, I have to admit it’s a lot less of a hassle than using a foundation and makeup brush! Keep reading »

Finnish beauty brand Lumene’s line of moisturizers and skin creams has all the usual bells and whistles — a built-in sunscreen and a luxurious, smooth feel with no greasy after-sheen. But its added secret weapon? Arctic Cloudberries. Native to Finland, cloudberries offer amazing age-defying benefits. Their seed oil protects and strengthens the skin, and the berries contain an extra high dose of Vitamin C, which make the skin look bright and radiant.  But what you really want to know is: Does it smell good? Of course it does! Fresh, clean and with a hint of berry fragrance. [$19.99, Drugstore.com]

I know this has been on your mind, but no need to worry, people. I would just like to confirm that Jessica Simpson is moisturizing regularly during her pregnancy. She shared her hydration habits with People just this morning. “My entire body is changing every single day … I make it a point to moisturize as much as possible,” she revealed. Phew. OK. I feel much better now. I was worried that stretch marks were going to destroy her. You may carry on being depressed about the bunny that was squished to death. [People]

Moisturize Like Royalty

When all it takes is a drop to feel like a princess, you know you’ve found the right moisturizer. I’m turning my nose up at winter dryness with Josie Maran’s 100 percent organic Argan Oil. Truly multi-purpose, this luxurious, lightweight oil can be used on face, body, hair or nails. Legendary for its healing properties, Moroccan Argan Oil is gentle  enough to use on all skin types and is believed to help correct skin conditions including acne and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It will leave you glowing from head to toe, like royalty. You don’t have to tell me twice. I’ll have my lady in waiting fetch me a bottle right away. Oh wait, I don’t have one. But I still intend to slather this stuff all over my body and pretend like I do.

As of a few days ago, my face has become very, very dry. Until then, I was the poster girl for oily/combination blemish-prone skin, and I’ve always taken great care to stay as freakishly matte as possible. It seems like the hellish combination of cold, blustery weather and my take-no-prisoners approach to anti-acne skincare has turned my generally-self-regulating skin into a flaky red mess.

I’m on a quest to find the right products to soothe and restore radiance to my pale, sad face without throwing down $200+ for a fancy night creme. Has a sudden change in skin condition like this ever happened to you?

Quick Tip: Moisturize Your Cuticles On The Cheap

Panty Headband!
In a pinch, a pair of undies holds your hair back! Read More »

Every fall, as the temperature drops, my cuticles begin to look cracked, ragged, and just plain dreadful. I’ve tried a few different products, but nothing has worked as well as Vitamins A+D Ointment. Yes, an ointment that has been used for ages to treat diaper rash is also great at moisturizing cuticles. Hey, chafed skin is chafed skin, right?!

I discovered this little beauty secret by accident. I was on the train, and my hands were aching because the chill in the air had zapped all the moisture. So I went digging through my purse, looking for something emollient and thick. I would have settled on Rosebud Salve, but then I remembered I was also carrying A+D Ointment. I applied a bit of the ointment to each cuticle and mixed the excess with my favorite hand cream, Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Shea Souffle. The ointment instantly calmed and soothed my hands and nails.
