Ariel Winter, the 14-year-old who plays Alex Dunphy on “Modern Family,” has been granted a restraining order against her mom after alleging abuse. Ariel’s court papers allege some very disturbing behavior by her mom, Chris Workman: “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to ‘sexualize’ minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time.” But Workman tells People the allegations are not true, and that she has letters from doctors and stylists who are on her side. For the time being, a judge granted Ariel’s older sister guardianship until a Nov. 20 hearing. Read more…
“Modern Family” is one of the few shows on TV right now that makes me genuinely laugh out loud every episode. I adore all of the characters, their weird quirks, and increasingly absurd story arcs. From the beginning, if I had to choose a favorite character it would probably be Phil. A talented real estate agent, dorky father of three, and loving husband of Claire, I always felt like Phil was a unique male character in the primetime sitcom landscape. On the surface, he seemed like a stereotypical goofy dad who is only slightly more mature than his pre-adolescent children, but as I kept watching, I realized he possessed depth, intelligence, and warmth. Was he immature on the surface? Yes, but there was more going on underneath, and because of that, he was lovable and real.
This season though, something has changed. I’ve noticed that while Phil is still hilarious, he’s lost some of the layers of complexity, and I’m afraid I might soon have to diagnose him with the dreaded Doofus Husband Syndrome… Keep reading »
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who stars as the lovable, tightly wound Mitchell in “Modern Family,” has a lot of big news to share. Not only is he newly engaged to his partner Justin Mikita, the couple is launching a foundation called “Tie The Knot,” which will advocate for a “more stylish and equal America” through the sale of limited edition bow ties. “We’ve teamed up with The Tie Bar to create a series of bow ties that are inspired by art and fashion, things that we love,” Ferguson explains. “All the proceeds will go to various organizations who are in the trenches fighting for the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans every day.” The accessories will be available in November, but even if you’re not in the market for a new bow tie, I’d encourage you to watch this video, which is a touching and funny appeal for marriage equality, featuring two people who are very obviously in love and want nothing more than to make it official. “Thrilled Ann Romney says [Modern Family] is her favorite show. We’ll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam’s wedding. As soon as it’s legal.”
–”Modern Family” creator Steve Levitan tweeted this response to Ann Romney after she told “Entertainment Tonight” that the sitcom was her favorite TV show. As you probably know, “Modern Family” features a gay couple, Mitch and Cam, who are in a committed relationship and raising an adopted daughter together, although federal law prohibits them from marrying. Meanwhile, Ann’s husband Mitt has promised to define marriage as between one man and one woman if he is elected president. [Us Weekly]
I only recently discovered the joys of “Modern Family,” and have been watching it nonstop for the past few days. Julie Bowen is perfect in the show as a control freak perfectionist mom of three, and she’s perfect in real life rocking this classy-yet-sassy ensemble at a Hulu event. Want to steal her style for yourself? We’ve got all the pieces (at non-celebrity prices!) after the jump… Keep reading »
“Modern Family”‘s hot mamma, Sofia Vergara, is in Golden Globe gown hell. Why? Her luscious lady lumps are in the way. She can’t find a single designer gown to accommodate her girls. After trying to squeeze into a too-tight frock earlier this week she Tweeted her plan to skip the awards show altogether. “Nothing fits meeee!!!! I’m not going to the Golden Globes!!!!!!!!” she complained. Although I do believe she is making a funny, maybe now designers will get the hint and start making gowns bigger than a size 2.
