I am one of, like, three people in the world who doesn’t think that people falling is funny. But I realize that most everybody does, so for you guys — here’s a montage of models falling. Enjoy!

Hatfields vs. McCoys. Sox vs. Yankees. Sharks vs. Jets. People who laugh at models falling on runways vs. people who think laughing at someone else’s faceplant is cruel. Such distinctions either pull us humans apart or bring us together! I kinda have no opinion: I just think it’s bizarre that our culture praises adult women for tottering around in six-inch-tall shoes that impede their mobility and names this “attractive.” Then again, I (safely!) wear flats six days a week.
In the spirit of unity for my fellow human beings who appreciate a good falling model faceplant, here’s some of the craziest
twisted ankles bruised egos on the catwalk:
I’m sorry. Perhaps it’s unkind of me, but I just can’t NOT laugh at a model stumbling down a runway in ridiculous high heels. This poor catwalker just cannot recover from the initial ankle twisting and has to hobble her way backstage like her legs are made of jelly. Keep reading »
Sky-high heels and platforms, tight or long garments, and a slick or coated catwalk can all lead to a hazardous runway and painful falls for models. “Fashion Television” compiled this video of models falling. Sure, it may look funny, but imagine if your occupation required you to put your body in this much danger and you’re told to grin (or scowl) and bear it. Not fun. [The Envy] Keep reading »
Hands down, my favorite thing about Fashion Week is knowing at some point, a model will fall on the catwalk and it will be caught on film. And even though I would never want anyone to get hurt, least of all one of our prized human clothing racks, I find models falling to be hysterical. Some people disagree. Luckily, this is America and we’re all entitled to our own opinions. I like the way this model wobbles as she’s getting up, like she might just topple over again. Enjoy that? We have a whole page of models falling — you’re welcome. Keep reading »
For all those aspiring beauty pageant hopefuls out there, here’s glimmer of hope. Though, generally, poise and grace are keys to winning the crown, the latest Miss USA wasn’t exactly full of balance and stability this weekend at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Rima Fakih, a 24-year-old Lebanese immigrant, took the stage in a white gown as Miss Michigan, and while showing off her evening wear, she almost tripped on her train. Now, that small error could have majorly altered the final results of just who would go on to win the entire show, but not this time. Despite her close call with the train, judges found Rima to be the most beautiful, most elegant, and most well-spoken of the contestants, and they named her the newest Miss USA. Just like models, beauty contestants prove they’re real people with their balance issues. [Daily Mail]

Exciting news, guys. Fashion Weeks are upon us — it’s men’s fashion week right now, so NYC women’s ready-to-wear is right around the corner — and you know what that means. Two words, my friends: Models. Falling. Even though I’ve personally argued against laughing, there’s just no denying that there’s nothing more fascinating (not to mention schadenfreude-inducing) than seeing any one of the great beauties of the world fail at, well, what is basically glorified walking. Never has that been more apparent to me until this dude went down at Vivienne Westwood. That’s all I got to say here. [Stylelist] Keep reading »
Even professional runway walkers have off-days. Yes, sometimes models wobble, and sometimes they fall down. Inspired by the this season’s models who hit the skids on the catwalk — thanks to all those crazy high heels — we’ve created a new dance: The Falling Model. There are three basic moves. Pick which one works for you, then try it out on the dance floor. You’ll impress all your fashionista friends!
The Oh-Hell-No: Pinwheel both arms, sending the right arm up and the left arm down as you dip towards the ground. Freeze. Smile like you know what you’re doing. Push out your chest as if you’re on the verge of a nip-slip. On tiptoe, spread your legs slightly, but do not flash your panties. Stand up. Do it again. Keep reading »
