It’s February already? Fashion weeks are fast approaching, that’s for sure, and New York is the first up as always, with shows beginning on Thursday. Regretfully, one brand us Manhattanites don’t usually hear much from is Miu Miu, which shows in Paris. This year, though, things are different. How different, you ask? Well, we still won’t be seeing the collection strutted down the runway, but the brand is launching a (limited edition!) line of 46 unique handmade bags of 17 different material combinations using 12 different processing techniques, all to be unveiled in the big four fashion capitals (London, Milan, Paris, and NYC) during each of their fashion weeks. I know for a fact that a grand total of zero of these bags will eventually be mine, but my god, aren’t they glorious? Check out the hypnotizing gif of all 16 New York bags, courtesy of Miu Miu, after the jump. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

Move over Hailee Steinfeld, there’s a new face of Miu Miu, and it’s fellow actress Mia Wasikowska. Miss Mia is an ancient 22, compared to Hailee’s wee 14, but judging from the first campaign images coming out of Miu Miu, she’s more than up for the job. I’m really digging the glossy, studio-lit shots — mostly because they’re a great way to actually see the clothes — which are completely and utterly stunning, by the way. Anybody got a spare few thousand they’d like to give me to spend on Miu Miu? And check out another shot after the jump, where she bears a striking resemblance to Kate Moss. Hailee Steinfeld Doesn’t Think She’s Too Young For Miu Miu

“It’s kind of funny because when I was younger I did a lot of print and then I went more into acting so I had a little deja vu when I went back to it, doing the whole modeling thing again. I had such an amazing time filming especially working with Bruce Weber. … Honestly I think the best part about this collection and the campaign is the fact that it’s so sophisticated – it’s timeless. And I think for younger girls like me it works. It feels appropriate.”

— Actress Hailee Steinfeld on why she doesn’t think she’s too young to represent a luxury fashion brand. We continue to respectfully disagree. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

Hailee Steinfeld’s The Newest Young Girl To Land A Major Fashion Campaign

Hailee Steinfeld is 14 years old. She starred in “True Grit” and she’s also now the face of Miu Miu’s newest series of ads. That’s great, I suppose, but SERIOUSLY WHY WHY WHY can’t we get some grown ass women starring in fashion ads? Style blog Fashionista lauds the campaign for its minimal use of makeup and Photoshopping. Well, you know, when you’re dealing with practically prepubescent skin, you’re not going to have that many problems, now are you? What’s next? Second grade Prada models? Toddler Thierry Mugler campaigns (somewhere in a marketing meeting someone is pitching this right now)? Miu Miu and the rest, start showing your clothes on real women — don’t condescend to us with teens, please. Keep reading »

One Dress, 3 Covers, Big Drama

Miu Miu has some explaining to do. Somehow, the exact same dress from the Fall 2010 runway just appeared on the three different magazine covers, meaning the editors at British Vogue, British Elle, AND W are none too pleased! Now technically, there are a few variations in the design: while the colors are different, the style is the same, but the coincidence is making editors and PR girls squirm. Here’s the breakdown: Eva Mendes graces the July 2010 issue of W in a yellow version of the Fall 2010 design, Freja Beha Erichsen dons a tangerine style for the August 2010 issue of British Vogue, and Lily Allen sports a lilac variate for the cover of British Elle. The interesting thing is, public relations offices work very hard so that this situation never occurs, taking great care to send different options to magazines. Somehow either the system broke down or editors just were beyond obsessed with this one dress; one thing’s for sure — this dress is going to sell out in no time. [Guardian] Keep reading »

Miu Miu Inspired By Jodie Foster’s “Taxi Driver” Look?

Is it just us, or do the models in Miu Miu’s Resort 2011 campaign look suspiciously like teenage hookers? We’re a little bit in love with the shoes, but the whole mommy’s makeup, too-much-jewelry, Jodie Foster in “Taxi Driver” thing makes us feel a little awkward. [Fashion Copious] Keep reading »
