“I always get asked, ‘Where do you get your confidence?’ I think people are well meaning, but it’s pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, ‘You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You’re not skinny, you’re not white, you’re a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you’re worth anything?’”
–Mindy Kaling brilliantly deconstructs the media’s obsession with her confidence in the latest issue of Parade magazine. “There are little Indian girls out there who look up to me,” she adds, “and I never want to belittle the honor of being an inspiration to them. But while I’m talking about why I’m so different, white male show runners get to talk about their art.” PREACH. [Marie Claire]
The fabulous Mindy Kaling wore this beautiful blue and green combo to the Fox Upfront Presentation yesterday. I wasn’t able to find exact matches for her dress and belt, but this sapphire dress is so lovely, and we all know mirrored metallic pumps go with everything. Mindy Kaling loves Jimmy Fallon more than anything in the world right now.
The reason? On Thursday, the “Late Night” host granted Kaling’s wish and “asked about” her during his interview with Game of Thrones hunk Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Kaling, who made her request on Twitter hours before the taping, also received photographic evidence from Fallon. Read more on Celebuzz…
Shhh. Don’t tell Mindy Kaling, but I didn’t read her first memoir. (Yet!) From what I hear, 2011′s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) was okay. Her publisher thinks it was more-than-okay, because the 33-year-old is going to write a second memoir about “the high highs and the low lows of the past 18 months” during the hiatus before the second season of “The Mindy Project.” And if that’s not enough Mindy Kaling for you, she’s also coming back as Kelly Kapoor for “The Office” series finale. Damn, that girl is going to be busy! I guess there’s no time anymore for lunches with Reese Witherspoon or flirting with President Clinton. [Deadline Hollywood] [Image: WENN]
“We are pretty inseparable best friends with a lot of chemistry ourselves, and we’re not dating. Whenever we date anyone else, I think there’s a period where the person is very skeptical of our friendship — ‘Everyone seems to think you two might be a couple, and I don’t mean to get in the way. Are you sure you’re not dating? Are you sure you’re not going to end up dating?’ It’s such a common thing to have that platonic best friend that becomes a little weird when you start dating someone.”
–BJ Novak, who played Ryan to Mindy Kaling’s Kelly on “The Office,” and is now a producer of her new show “The Mindy Project,” describes how the duo’s real-life BFF relationship often complicates their romantic lives. I had no idea these two were friends in real life, and thinking about it is kind of giving me a cute attack (that’s when you’re so overwhelmed by cuteness you have to breathe into a paper bag for 5 minutes). In related news, BJ just started a two-episode guest appearance on “The Mindy Project,” so we’ll get to see more of their BFF chemistry in action. [Inside TV]
