The Cannes Film Festival is where celebs are supposed to bring their A game. Not their A- game, but their A+ game. That’s because they’re not simply on the red carpet at some crappy Hollywood premiere — they’re on the world’s snotty stage! In France! France! And they’re competing against French and Italian starlets in the glamour game, too. As such, these girls have some really intense gown-age in tow — with everything from lacy cut outs, to feathers, to bright colors at their disposal. We survey the successes — and some of the Cannes chaff, after the jump.

I remember first running across Milla Jovovich when she was on the cover of Sassy magazine back in 1991. Her little model bio said that her favorite author (this was when she was 17, mind you) was Dostoevsky, and even at that young age, I knew she was hopelessly pretentious. It seems that she’s aged well — she’s still ridiculously gorgeous — and made a slew of really stupid movies (“Resident Evil,” anyone?). Plus, she’s developed her own fashion line  — Jovovich-Hawk — with her friend Carmen Hawk. And here, at a Restoration Hardware event last week, Jovovich proves her sartorial strengths, too. So what’s the difference between saying that the 2012 Pirelli calendar features a boatload of naked models looking smoking hot, and saying the 2012 Pirelli calendar features a crapton of nude models looking friggin’ sexy? Well, according to the art historian Kenneth Clark:

To be naked is to be deprived of our clothes, and the word implies some of the embarrassment most of us feel in that condition. The word “nude,” on the other hand, carries, in educated usage, no uncomfortable overtone. The vague image it projects into the mind is not of a huddled and defenseless body, but of a balanced, prosperous, and confident body: the body re-formed.

And all this is to say that though they may look naked, the girls in the 2012 Pirelli calendar — shot by Mario Sorrenti — are nude. But you don’t really care, do you? You just want to see what Kate Moss looks like without all of her clothes on. Well, fine, so do we. But beware, this gallery is full of boobs (so many boobs!), is pretty full frontal, and entirely NSFW.

Who IS Balthazar Getty, Anyway?

Who does Balthazar Getty think he is? Well, inquiring minds (who keep reading his name over and over again) want to know! So we did a little digging on the daddy that ran off with Sienna Miller and here’s what we found out:

  • LOVES: At the tender age of 16, Balthazar moved in with actress Lala Sloatman, but their relationship burned out fast. In 1989 the aspiring actor was photographed for a Seventeen magazine spread with his former girlfriend Milla Jovovich. After they split, Getty got it on with Drew Barrymore until 1991. In 2000, he married fancy-pants children’s clothing designer and couturier to the stars, Rosetta Millington. Together they have four children, but Getty said that the two separated in late-2007, before he hooked up with co-star Sienna Miller.
