Last night Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic National Convention and gave what I found to be an extremely inspiring speech — I especially appreciated that she didn’t seem to be overly rehearsed and even occasionally stumbled over her words. I’m not down with my politicians or my politicians spouses seeming like robotic newscasters. Anyway, the bulk of Michelle’s speech was about being a wife and mother and her hopes for the country — at the end she brought out daughters Malia and Sascha, who behaved as adorably as you would expect. Politics aside, Michelle’s speech got me thinking about what it means to be a successful professional, partner, and parent, especially when she referenced “Hillary Clinton’s 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.” it was clear she did appreciate what her husband’s rival did for women, especially given what her hopes must be for her own daughters. With that in mind — and that today marks the 88th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote — what are your hopes for your children, specifically your daughters? A few of mine after the jump and I really hope you’ll chime in with your own in the comments. Keep reading »

The big 4-0 maybe the new 30, but 50 and up are the new twentysomething! From their way with men to their media coverage, the only hot flashes these ladies suffer from are from the paparazzi! Just check out these celeb sex symbols:
Cher This fierce fashionista may be suiting up as Catwoman at 62! Rumor has it, she is director Christopher Nolan’s first choice to play the purring vixen in the next Batman movie. He wants a vamp that’s adored by younger men — in this case, the younger men may be gay, but hey, she still rocks!
This week, Barack Obama is expected to announce his running mate. Who will he choose? Many of the rumored contenders are men, but a few women, including Hillary Clinton, are rumored to have been considered. We here at the Frisky would love to see Obama pick a female as his VP. So, we’ve assembled a list of the ladies we think would make for a suitable candidate-mate. Keep reading »
Last night I was on “Showbiz Tonight” discussing Tyra Banks’ Bazaar cover, and the photo shoot within the magazine in which she dresses up as Michelle Obama. The shoot is not a fashion spread — i.e. there’s no “10 Looks Michelle Obama Will Need As A First Lady, As Worn By Model Tyra Banks” — and the interview accompanying the images isn’t really serious in nature, though Tyra does say that her Secret Service code-name would be “Kiss My Fat Ass”. Rather, it seems like Bazaar is trying to cash in on the Obama craze in any way they can, since they apparently couldn’t get the real woman to do a shoot with them. (By the way, I predict Michelle will be in Vogue, instead!) As for Tyra? Well, this is hardly the first cuh-razy stunt the talk show host has pulled. After all, Ty-Ty seems to feel like the world is The Tyra Show, and we’re all just lucky to get out alive. After the jump, six other classically nutty and self-absorbed “All About Tyra” moments.
With all the hullabaloo over Barack and Michelle Obama’s much watched fist-bump on Tuesday, we started thinking about how it compared to other political public displays of affection. Who could forget the never-ending kiss at the Democratic National Convention between Al and Tipper Gore? Some people are still holding back their lunch. Republican Presidential nominee John McCain has a PDA pattern of his own — at every rally he make sure to thank wife, Cindy, then gives her a polite kiss on the cheek. For others, as well as another photo of that fist-bump (we couldn’t resist), click after the jump… Keep reading »
So to preface this post, I want to make sure to convey that a woman’s style (or man’s style for that matter) or lack there of, should never be a topic covered by political pundits. It was mega annoying to hear Chris Matthews and the gang analyze Hillary Clinton’s blazers in the same breath that they discussed her health care policy. Though Michelle Obama isn’t running for office, we couldn’t help but notice she’s got some serious style that definitely brings to mind Jackie Kennedy’s fierceness. When she fist-bumped Barack on Tuesday (a moment which made me think these two probably have a vibrant sex life and frankly also made me salivate a little), I was like, “Damn, is she wearing a studded belt?” I’m sorry, but that is just cool. So, with that in mind, I decided to see what other fashion inspirations come courtesy of the possible future First Lady. Three looks, and how to get them, after the jump… Keep reading »
Barack Obama basically clinched the Democratic nomination for President last night and before he gave his monumental speech (he’s the first African-American to ever win the nomination for President of the United States), he and his insanely awesome, hot, purple-clad wife Michelle (we told you purple was on the up-and-up!) shared a fist bump. For some reason, this made me squeal in delight. I never realized how romantic and respectful and mutually appreciative and loving a frat-tastic fist bump could be. Could it be the new peck-on-the-cheek? Keep reading »
