The Formula For An Amazing News Item: Whitney Houston, A Monkey And Toe Sucking

Every so often a news item comes along that defies all reason and exceeds all expectations of news greatness. Today, I found one such story. The headline reads: Whitney Houston Once Got Intimate With Michael Jackson’s Pet Monkey Bubbles.” What does that mean exactly? It means that David Gest (that weird looking fellow who was married to Liza Minnelli) made some interesting claims during his interview for the upcoming Michael Jackson documentary. “Whitney was having dinner with Michael at his Neverland home when she accidentally dropped her knife under the table. While Michael was retrieving it for her, Whitney felt her toes being sucked. She moaned, ‘Michael, is that you? Don’t stop. That’s so sensual.’ Yet Michael’s head popped up and her toes were still being sucked. It turned out it was Bubbles,” he recalled. And there you have it. Questions, comments, concerns? Above, the breakdown of what makes this news item truly amazing. [ONTD] Keep reading »

Jay-Z Says Beyoncé Reminds Him Of Michael Jackson

“What I’ve learned from [Beyoncé] is similar to what I learned from Michael Jackson—and I know that’s blasphemy to compare the two because Mike was such an innovator, but I think she’s like the second coming. Y’know, the hard work and dedication that she puts into her shows. It just makes you want to work harder at your own craft. She’s like a machine.”

Jay-Z talks about his new joint album with Kanye West, Watch The Throne, and in the process explains the many ways Beyoncé has inspired him. Sure, it’s strange to draw a mental connection between your wife and Michael Jackson, but I hear what he’s saying. [ONTD] Keep reading »

A Michael Jackson Perfume And Cologne?!?! No!

I have never had a desire to smell like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, or Mariah Carey—so I know I am not the target market for celebrity perfumes. Celebrity colognes make even less sense to me—I just can’t imagine wanting to smell like George Clooney, Tim McGraw, or Antonio Banderas. Apparently, I don’t know what I am talking about because these things sell like hotcakes. Still, there is one new scent in the works that I don’t think will get such a nice reception on the market: a Michael Jackson scent.

Yes, apparently Joe Jackson has signed on with a French perfumery to make both a male and female Michael Jackson fragrance. Keep reading »

Even Though Michael Jackson Is Gone, We Can Still Hold His Hand

“Hold My Hand,” featuring Akon, is the late Michael Jackson’s first posthumous single release from the upcoming album Michael. I actually like the song, but I could do without the “happy/sad children motif.” Perhaps not the most flattering choice. Anyhow, R.I.P., MJ. Keep reading »

This Year’s Most Popular Baby Names Are Pop Culture Soaked

When I was a kid, I wanted to name my first daughter Madison. Why? Because I’d just seen “Splash” and thought Daryl Hannah was just the awesomest. Little did I realize that zillions of other women were thinking the same thing and there was a big spike in the number of Madisons born that year. Pop culture can have a big impact on names, and the effect is pretty obvious looking at this list of Baby Center’s 100 most popular babe names for the year.

10 Reasons We’re Obsessed With Blanket Jackson

After a certain point, the answer to “What Would Suri Do?” just isn’t terribly challenging. This is why we must find new child icons to obsess over. And it looks like Blanket Jackson is the Shiloh Jolie-Pitt of the Jackson clan, stealing all the thunder from the other less pouty children. Even though his sister Paris is more eloquent and his brother Prince Michael is more, um, old, Michael Jackson‘s youngest son Blanket has the magic about him. He’s got fashion icon potential and the talent to fill his dad’s shoes. So we’ve rounded up 10 reasons we’re obsessed with the little guy! Keep reading »

8 Surprising Things About Michael Jackson We Learned From Yesterday’s “Oprah”

It’s been more than a year since Michael Jackson died, and in December his posthumous album Michael will be released. So yesterday, Oprah sat down with the King of Pop’s parents and children and asked them to share things the world didn’t know about Michael. After the jump, some surprising things that were said. Jackson Family Is Still Capitalizing On Michael (Unsurprisingly) With J5 Clothing Line

There’s a ton of Jackson memorabilia and fan products out there, so it’s not as if the Jackson Family is making up for a lack in the market with their new J5 Collection. According to a press release, the line is licensed by the Jackson Family Estate, and:

“…offers men’s and women’s styles featuring 24 varying vintage images and illustrations representative of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. Images dating from the 60’s, such as the Jackson 5’s first newspaper article, to the 70’s Afro funk graphics, all the way up to official art from the 80’s biggest concert tour, the 1984 world Victory Tour, J5 Collection captures the essence of one of the most iconic families of all time.”

Michael Jackson’s Kids To Appear On “Oprah”

It looks like Michael Jackson‘s kids — Prince, 13, Paris, 12, and Blanket, 8 — will be appearing on an upcoming episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Apparently, Oprah went to visit Michael’s mother, Katherine, to do a story on the late singer’s childhood, legacy, and children, and she sat down with the kids for a backyard chat. Amelia and I share a longstanding fascination with Blanket, so I, for one, am intrigued to see this. I mean: BLANKET! That right there is enough to capture my attention. It makes me want to name my children after random household items. In any case, the Michael Jackson tribute show airs November 8. [People] Keep reading »

Chris Brown Is Still Crying About Michael Jackson’s Death

Last night on the BET Awards, Chris Brown — you know, that guy who beat up Rihanna and fancies himself “the next Michael Jackson” — performed a tribute to the late King of Pop. Brown was so “overwhelmed” by “emotion” — i.e. he saw an opportunity to draw attention to himself in a desperate attempt to appear compassionate and sensitive — that he broke down into tears and had to be comforted backstage by Jackson’s brother Jermaine. As Annika would say, SMH. Shaking. My. Head. Keep reading »
