The Formulaic Quirkiness Of Michael Cera

Yes, Michael Cera is a cool dude and I adored him in “Arrested Development” and “Juno.” But now that he’s been on the scene for at least five years, essentially playing the same roles, I’m a little over his schtick. So are the fine people at The High Definite, who made this pretty accurate chart of the last four movies he’s been in. Though they forgot “rumple hair.” [BuzzFeed]

The Day Michael Cera Met DJ Pauly D

Michael Cera With Pauly D From Jersey Shore

Seriously, what’s happening here? Is the universe about to implode? Apparently DJ Pauly D (on MTV’s “Jersey Shore”) got together with indie darling, Michael Cera, to film some sort of promotion for Cera’s upcoming film, “Youth In Revolt” (which looks HILAR, by the way). After the jump, JWoww shares her slice of pizza.

Has Michael Cera Broken Charlyne Yi’s Paper Heart?

Michael Cera and Charlene Yi

Well, hipster ladies, there you have it. George-Michael Bluth is single now: Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi hath broken up, says Star magazine. Charlyne Yi played the giggly stoner girl in “Knocked Up” and Michael Cera is, of course, Michael Cera. According to a source, “He’s been with her since before he was super famous and now all these girls fawn over him. He’s itching to date other people.”

No one would care about the alleged Yi-Cera breakup if not for the fact the two are starring in a quasi-documentary/quasi-comedy “Paper Heart” together and doing the press junket thing to promote the flick right now. Awkward.  [IMDB]

UPDATE: Thanks to commenter _jsw_ for pointing out the correct spelling of Charlyne’s name.

“Paper Heart” Shreds Ours—In A Good Way

Charlyne Yi does not believe in love. She is making a kinda-sorta-documentary asking friends and others about what love is. “Take somebody to Applebee’s and get them hot wings,” one kid suggests as the perfect date. Accidentally, of course, Charlyne falls in love with none other than our favorite nerd-hottie Michael Cera. You may recognize Charlene from her appearance as the stoned girl on the couch in “Knocked Up,” but in this semi-documentary she reminds us of the existence of love, wherever you might find it (like with that nerdy guy you never quite noticed before). Something tells us this film and ”(500) Days Of Summer” will be duking it out for our favorite indie romance of the summer. (Pssst! Just in case you were wondering, Yi and Cera found love together—in real life.) “Paper Heart” opens in theaters on August 7. [Paper Heart]

Facebook: The Movie?

Facebook Movie In The Works

First we heard that a Facebook status message was going to be turned into a movie. Now, a fictional documentary about Facebook itself is in the works. While it sounds like a snooze fest to us, apparently Columbia Pictures digs the idea and is working to bring the biopic about Mark Zuckerberg and his social networking site to the big screen. The script was written by “The West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin and is based on the soon-to-be-released book by Ben Mezrich, The Accidental Billionares. Most importantly, Columbia Pictures is in advanced talks with David Fincher, of “Fight Club” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” fame, to direct. And initial casting searches have Michael Cera and Shia LeBeouf neck-in-neck to play the Harvard dropout. Since anything David Fincher, Michel Cera, and Shia Lebeouf touches generally turns to gold, if Columbia Pictures can get these folks on-board, maybe this flick will turn out to be more than “Revenge of the Nerds: Part 56.” [CNet]

A Romantic Movie That Doesn’t Suck?

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

Most romantic comedies are a little sap-tastic with few moments that are actually funny. Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, looks cute, and more importantly, funny. I’m sitting in a coffee shop with my headphones in, and I actually laughed out loud while watching it. Seriously, people are looking at me. It comes out October 3.
