Real Reese Witherspoon Is Way More Fun Than Public Reese Witherspoon

Reese's Arrest Video
Listen to the drunken rant heard 'round the world! Read More »

Cara Delevingne posted two hilarious Instagram videos this week of Reese Witherspoon basically turning a celeb-filled elevator at the Met Ball into a sorority sleepover. Cara has since deleted the post, but THANK GOD the internet got its hands on it first, because I adore the moments when we get to see Reese’s actual personality, which she seems to keep on lock around the press. Reese spends the videos staring at her iPhone, failing at pronouncing Cara’s last name, and purring that the most important thing in a girl’s name is “that a man can whisper it into his pillow.”

This is one of the more coherent glimpses of her unedited self we’ve seen in a while, and I am now totally convinced that Real Reese is way more fun than Public Reese. Keep reading »

Killer news for gritty Sid Vicious appreciators and louche Givenchy fanatics alike: the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has announced the subject of next year’s illustrious spring exhibition, and they’re drawing inspiration from some very badly behaved candidates. On the heels of this year’s “Schiaparelli and Prada” exhibit, which drew less-than-desirable numbers, the museum has secured itself a premise that’s guaranteed to be a number one hit. “Punk: Chaos to Couture” will highlight the roots of the punk revolution and the manner in which it diffused into mainstream culture, particularly high fashion. Hits & Misses: The Best And Worst Of Beauty At The 2012 Met Ball

The Met Ball is, in many ways, bigger and brighter than all of the awards shows combined. While the Academy honors excellence in film, the gala honors glamour in its purest form. Each year there’s a “topic” of celebration — last night extolled the parallels of Miuccia Prada to the late great Elsa Schiaparelli; last year’s subject was the inimitable Lee Alexander McQueen — and each year it’s up to the young and the beautiful to bring it. Good sense and humility takes a night off, and the most illustrious names in both the silver screen and the backstage dust off their boldest, most eye-catching, sometimes straight up cray looks. It is the Met Gala, after all, and if you’re not planning on blowing the roof off of the fashion stratosphere, then why bother going at all? Keep reading »

Joseph Altuzarra’s (Somewhat) Surprising Date To The Met Ball

Will we ever hear the end of Lana del Rey? She’s been suspiciously absent from Fashion Week, and I thought for sure that her “Saturday Night Live” performance would finish the singer off for good, but the past few weeks have proven me wrong: not only has she landed a Vogue UK cover, but there’s reason to believe that LDR may be about to officially hit the scene as a fashion darling. Lana, who’s notedly less “gangster Nancy Sinatra” and more “I went to boarding school in upstate Connecticut” (she actually did) birth name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, will be escorted by this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion fund winner, Joseph Altuzarra, to the Met Gala. Um, yeah, kind of a big deal. I can’t hate only because I really love the sartorial statements Lana/her team have made in the past — luxe fur coats + glittering gowns + Mulberry bags = my kind of girl. Hey, as long as she leaves her ridiculous diamond tooth cap at home, things will go over just fine. [Fashionista]

How To Crash A Fashion Party

The Met Gala after-party at the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room earlier this week looked like just about the most awesome event you were never invited to. Thanks to Twitter, you probably sat at home, refreshing constantly to see all the privileged fashion writers posting live Tweets. (Thanks, WWD, for rubbing it in our faces with updates like this: “Katy Perry crawled over to and underneath Kristen Bell’s dress.”)

Well, screw that. You want to be a part of the action?* We asked some industry insiders for advice on crashing fashion parties. Their tips, after the jump. [WWD] Keep reading »
