Well Played: Mena Suvari Promoting “American Pie: Reunion” In Madrid
While we will most likely never see “American Pie: Reunion” — not even in a so-bad-it’s-good way — we have been impressed by the international press blitz the film’s been on, promoting itself around the globe. Because apparently, gross-out humor is universal. Here, Mena Suvari looks smashing in a slightly conservative magenta and black cocktail dress. Conservative? Does she know what movie she’s in?
Beauty Style Stealer: Mena Suvari
I assume I speak for many of us when I say that I couldn’t really care less about “American Reunion,” but I am very interested in Mena Suvari. She’s been so awesome for so long — she was subversive in Hollywood before being subversive in Hollywood was cooler than being cool in Hollywood. Does that make sense? No? Okay. Her film debut, 1997′s “Nowhere,” is in my opinion one of the most underrated dark teen films ever made, and then there was “American Beauty,” the amazingness of which goes without saying.
Mena doesn’t come around much anymore, which is why I’m always thrilled to see her on any red carpet anywhere. The dress she donned to yesterday’s “American Reunion” premiere was a bit of a miss, but her makeup and hair were flawless to the bottom line. This is a very low-key beauty look, yes, but the emphasis is in the way her eyes are contoured. This technique makes eyes look bigger, brighter, and more awake with very little effort. Will A New “American Pie” Give Its Original Stars A Fresh Start?
“American Pie” is a late-’90s classic. But “American Pie 2″ and “American Wedding,” the concept’s second and third parts? Well, they were pretty abysmal. And don’t even remind me of the straight-to-DVD spin-offs “American Pie: The Naked Mile,” “American Pie: Band Camp,” and “American Pie: Beta House.” Universal Pictures isn’t deterred, though. They are looking to reboot the franchise 12 years later, with a fourth installment that will veer truer to the original. Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and Eugene Levy have already signed on the dotted line for the new movie and deals are in the works for Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Coolidge. Alyson Hannigan may or may not be involved.

Mena Suvari wore Theory’s Sequined Silk Dress for a night of partying with her husband, Simone Sestito, at Trousdale Nightclub in West Hollywood over the weekend. I appreciate her combination of casual pieces, like the tote bag and suede pumps, with the dressier items–her sequined dress and tuxedo jacket. Is Mena Suvari Determined To Be The Wackiest Celebrity At Fashion Week?
This weekend there was an article in The New York Times about the celebs who get coveted front row seats during Fashion Week, and how, each season, there’s a short list of seriously desired celebs to have at your show, while the remaining front row seats are divvied out “on a downward slope.” Which is why I suppose it makes sense that Mena Suvari attended oh-so-many shows over the last week. Not to be a total beyotch (and believe me, I was just as annoyed seeing former cast members of “The City” sitting front row, while I was in the nosebleeds), but when was the last time Suvari, um, did something memorable?
