Fox News Host Megyn Kelly Believes In (White) Santa Claus

Fox News Host Megyn Kelly Believes In (White) Santa Claus
"Santa just is white."

Earlier this week, Slate.com columnist Aisha Harris wrote a somewhat tongue-in-cheek piece arguing that Santa Claus needed a makeover. Instead of always being depicted as a jolly, fat, white man, Santa Claus should be a penguin. Harris wrote about growing up as a Black child and seeing two versions of Santa — on TV and at school, Santa was white, but at home, the Santa who decorated her house (and delivered presents) at Christmastime was Black, just like her. Harris described how this omnipresent white figure made her feel as a child:

I remember feeling slightly ashamed that our black Santa wasn’t the “real thing.” Because when you’re a kid and you’re inundated with the imagery of a pale seasonal visitor—and you notice that even some black families decorate their houses with white Santas—you’re likely to accept the consensus view, despite your parents’ noble intentions.

Depicting Santa as an animal, Harris argued, “could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood.” She continued: Keep reading »

Preach It, Sister
  • Watch Fox News’ Megyn Kelly decimate her pompous blowhard guest, who is judgmentally arguing that stay-at-home-moms are “better” for all kids. Erick Erickson is the editor of a conservative website who wrote a piece — in response to a Pew report this week that 40 percent of moms are family breadwinners [second item] — which Kelly rightfully found “offensive.” Erickson argued that moms working outside the home are against science and harmful to kids; a full report on the sexist drivel is here at Media Matters.  The way Kelly hands him his classist, sexist ass on a silver platter is glorious. Megyn Kelly On Fox News’ Anchor-Babes & Their Short Skirts

megyn kelly photo

“Roger [Ailes of News Corps.] is very good at finding attractive people who are also interesting and smart. But you have to be careful what you’re looking at. Some on-air talent have objected that some websites will Photoshop the skirts and make it seem like the women were wearing something more like a belt than a skirt. Don’t believe it unless you’ve seen it live.”

— This is Megyn Kelly of Fox News in Marie Claire responding to the question “Would you agree that Fox has cultivated a reputation as a stomping ground for news babes? YouTube is filled with videos of Fox anchors wearing really short skirts.” Obviously, she is not going to bite the hand that feeds her and criticize Fox News for putting an army of pretty blondes like herself on air. And no one agrees more strongly than me that writing off something a woman says just because she is attractive is sexist BS. However! Let’s get real here. This Photoshop story is quite rich, not to mention she totally dodged the question. I have no doubt in my mind that you can find all sorts of NC-17 pictures of the ladies of Fox News which have been Photoshopped by the 16-year-old boys of America. “Don’t believe it unless you’ve seen it live” is the most creative answer ever, though. Maybe our TVs are deceiving us and there is some mass optical illusion at play? [Marie Claire] Keep reading »

Megyn Kelly Defends Maternity Leave In Unlikely Feminist Fox News Moment

Something, dare I say, feminist happened over at Fox News yesterday! Anchorwoman Megyn Kelly schooled her guest, jerkface/conservative talk radio host Mike Gallagher, for calling her three months’ maternity leave a “racket” on his radio show. You know, maternity leave — that time a woman takes off work to recuperate after an 8 lb. human being passes through a vagina. Yeah, what a racket that is. At least Megyn Kelly is able to have a sense of humor about with this goon, who is very, very worried that the status quo privileges he enjoys as a white dude are being infringed upon. If a man asked me, seemingly in earnest, “Do men get maternity leave?” — and that’s a direct quote — my jaw would hit the floor. I am not usually a fan of Fox News or Ms. Kelly, but I have to give her a sisterly tip of the hat on this one. (However, the Family and Medical Leave Act guarantees up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave, so it’s not exactly something America should be proud of. The United States joins Papua New Guinea and Swaziland in countries that don’t offer paid maternity leave.) [NJ.com] Keep reading »

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Tweets Punched Woman Maybe “Deserves” To Be In A Coma

Megyn Kelly, WTF are you thinking? Regarding a tragic news story in which a NYC man punched and put a woman into a coma over a disputed parking space, the Fox News correspondent posted the tweet above this afternoon.

Maybe she deserved it? Maybe violence against women is OK? Maybe violence against strangers on the street is OK? Maybe putting someone in a friggin’ coma is OK? Let’s all pray to God this was the ill-conceived tweet of a stupid Fox News intern, not grown-ass Megyn Kelly who should know better than to speculate someone “deserves” to be beaten into a coma. Shame on you. [Twitter, Gothamist] Keep reading »

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly On Flaunting Her Legs For Journalism

“Well, it’s a visual business. People want to see the anchor.”

—”Fox News” host Megyn Kelly‘s response to a comment from a GQ reporter that “you sit behind a glass table that shows off your legs.” Interestingly, this segues into a GQ reporter asking Megyn if she is a feminist. Let’s see what Megyn has to say, after the jump.
