Herve Leger Thinks Models Are Too Skinny And Sad

“If I had to go back to catwalk presentations I would be in a panic .. .Already the models I find are too skinny, too sad. And I knew the age of the super top models, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who were always lively and smiling. Today you go between several défilés and you will see the exact same type of girl — it just doesn’t inspire me. Of course I do presentations, I do three presentations a year: spring, fall and cruise, that I show at my showroom and what I like is to have the buyers come to me. They buy, things sell well, and that really gives me the feeling of existing for something because I know that somewhere out there in the world I have clients that adore what I’m doing and that’s really reward enough.”

Please, Do Not Walk TOO FAST!

You don’t think the designers just toss the models out there on the catwalk do you? No, at Max Azria, they give them walking instructions in ALL CAPS. [NYC, 2/16/10] Keep reading »

Miley Cyrus’ New Wal-Mart Collection Is Not So Bad

Wal-Mart is having a serious fashion moment. They are selling the iconic Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat for a total steal ($35), and now preview images of Miley Cyrus‘ new spring line have leaked. Of course, we would normally yawn about the latter if it weren’t for the fact that the questionably styled teenage singer worked with fashion expert Max Azria to create an entire spring collection for under $20–yes under twenty dollars–that actually looks kind of wearable. BCBG it ain’t, but this cute dress and tops bearing the kind of ruffles and prints that we can totally see as Max’s influence look good so far. We’ll have to wait until February to see more but in the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more deals. Um, is Wal-Mart the new Target or something? [Lucky] Keep reading »

What Is Mickey Rourke Doing At Fashion Week?

Fashion Week is not all about the clothes, people. It’s prime celeb-stalking territory, as everyone from Solange Knowles to Rachel Bilson attends the shows at Bryant Park to show support for their favorite designers. Every season it varies — which designer will bring in the most Hollywood power. One season it was Rock & Republic, while another it was Miss Sixty. Marc Jacobs, on the other hand, tried to go the no-celebrity route this year, though Madonna and Lady Gaga were in attendance for his spring 2010 collection. Keep reading »

Max Azria Joins The Cast Of “The Beautiful Life”

At this point, the cameos seem a lot more interesting than the plotline of upcoming prime-time drama “The Beautiful Life.” The show, which is centered around the lives of New York City models, has attracted a star-studded list of fashion industry types who play themselves, including designer Zac Posen and “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia. Now add Max Azria, the man behind buzzy brands like BCBG Max Azria and Herve Leger. The designer is scheduled to appear as himself on an upcoming episode of the show, which debuts September 16 on the CW. Keep reading »

Miley Cyrus & Max Azria For Walmart Is A Lotta ‘Meh’

Good thing we didn’t expect much. Pop star Miley Cyrus teamed up with Max Azria — designed for BCBG, Herve Leger, and Max Azria — to design a line for Walmart and the results are epically mall worthy. Shrunken vests? Check! Tie dye tanks? Obvi! Hipster plaid? Got it! Basically, the line is completely inoffensive but totally snoozeworthy. If I were on a long drive and happened to pass by a Walmart and wanted to stop to pick up some cheese doodles and a sixer of Diet Coke, I would totally peruse the racks and maybe buy one of these tank tops to wear on the beach. But that’s about it. [Walmart] Keep reading »
