I think she looks amazing and her whole vibe really matches the brand’s aesthetic. So I’m only half embarrassed to admit that I actually enjoyed perusing the Material Girl section during a recent trip to Macy’s. Madonna’s daughter has posted another update to her fashion blog that focuses on the upcoming launch of the Material Girl Collection collaboration between her and her mom. She uses the word “uber” (“I’m like uber happy you guys like my blog”), is preparing to dye her hair (“a kind of cherry blackish thingy bobbie”), and listening to Florence and the Machine. Cat’s out of the bag—”Gossip Girl” star and angsty teen Taylor “Bad Attitude” Momsen will be the face of Lourdes Ciccone’s Material Girl line for Macy’s that she’s designing with mommy Madonna. Think little Lola had a say in hiring her? Our instincts say yes as Lourdes has been pushing her juniors collection towards an edgier style, and Momsen seems like the type of style icon Lola would admire.
Of course—and it’s so obvious, do we even have to say it?—the critics will inevitably rage against Momsen for presenting herself through yet another avenue as a bad role model for teens. Macy’s has released the first sketches from Material Girl, the juniors’ line the pop star is “designing” with her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Don’t mean to be a hater, but these clothes look like any other generic juniors’ brand sold at Macy’s.
