Taylor Momsen is a Material Girl no longer. Kelly Osbourne is now the face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes’ teen line and the ad campaign has hit the web. I think she looks amazing and her whole vibe really matches the brand’s aesthetic. It makes sense she would collab with Madge in some way — she did record her own version of “Papa Don’t Preach” way back when she was a pop star. Check out one more ad after the jump! I’ve never looked at Taylor Momsen and said: “Gee, I wish I could dress like her!” But I have studied Lourdes Ciccone Leon trying to figure out her style secret. So I’m only half embarrassed to admit that I actually enjoyed perusing the Material Girl section during a recent trip to Macy’s. While most of the fashions screamed “junior’s,” I did find some that got my style gears grinding. Keep reading »
Madonna‘s romances and breakups have always been front-page tabloid fodder, but the Material Mom has done an excellent job keeping her children’s lives private. Since her arrival 13 years ago, the world has seen little of her first child, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, other than in paparazzi photos. (Her father is Carlos Leon, a Cuban-American trainer.) Lourdes, who goes by “Lola,” is inching more and more into the public eye with her Macy’s clothing line, Material Girl, and her mega-adorable blog that’s developed a following by more than a few Frisky staffers. On her blog, Lola likes to share her made-up words — fabnosity! — and her favorite bands — My Chemical Romance. But don’t let the normal tween-y behavior fool you: Lola leads a pretty charmed life. Look, it’s Madonna showing Taylor Momsen, 16, how to work it, work it. Madge was directing and photographing Miss Momsen for a commercial featuring the former’s Material Girl line collaboration with daughter Lourdes Ciccone, 13. Is it wrong to be worried for the children? [NYC, 7/28/10] Keep reading »
Things The Frisky-ers find adorable: hugging cats, little mermaids, Lourdes Ciccone. Madonna’s daughter has posted another update to her fashion blog that focuses on the upcoming launch of the Material Girl Collection collaboration between her and her mom. She uses the word “uber” (“I’m like uber happy you guys like my blog”), is preparing to dye her hair (“a kind of cherry blackish thingy bobbie”), and listening to Florence and the Machine. As for the Material Girl line, she reveals it will be vintage-y: “there’s gonna be a whole area of like one of a kind vintage things!” We love Lola. [Material Girl] Keep reading »
Cat’s out of the bag—”Gossip Girl” star and angsty teen Taylor “Bad Attitude” Momsen will be the face of Lourdes Ciccone’s Material Girl line for Macy’s that she’s designing with mommy Madonna. Think little Lola had a say in hiring her? Our instincts say yes as Lourdes has been pushing her juniors collection towards an edgier style, and Momsen seems like the type of style icon Lola would admire.
Of course—and it’s so obvious, do we even have to say it?—the critics will inevitably rage against Momsen for presenting herself through yet another avenue as a bad role model for teens. She’s got a bitchy attitude, she smokes, she acts way too old and reckless for a 16-year-old, etc., etc. What do you think about Taylor Momsen modeling for Material Girl? Would you have rather seen Lourdes do it herself? [E! Online] Keep reading »
