Slain Mother’s Baby Found Alive

On Monday, eight-months-pregnant Darlene Haynes of Massachusetts was found dead in her bedroom, her unborn baby cut from her womb. Amazingly, this tragic murder has a silver lining: Darlene’s baby girl has been found alive. Police found the baby with one of Darlene’s friends, Julie A. Corey, in New Hampshire yesterday. When some of Darlene’s friends heard about the grisly murder, they tipped off authorities that they had seen Corey shortly before, carrying around a newborn girl. Corey claimed she had recently given birth, “sometime” between July 23th and 24th, and couldn’t remember the name of the Massachusetts hospital where she’d had the baby. Corey is currently charged with being a fugitive from justice, but something tells me that in the end she’ll be charged with something much stronger. Police are currently investigating what happened in this heinous crime. The most important part is that Darlene’s baby girl is healthy and getting proper medical attention. [CNN] Keep reading »

MA Teen Pregnancy Pact: The Conclusion

In June, there was a controversy in the news about a high school in Massachusetts with 17 pregnant students — four times as many as the school usually has. When Time first wrote about it, they interviewed the school’s principal, Joseph Sullivan, and he talked about how there was a pregnancy pact among the teenagers. Well, now the Gloucester, MA, mayor and school district’s superintendent say there’s no evidence of a pregnancy pact, and this story ends with the news that the principal has resigned over the issue. Pantyhose Is Driving Massachusetts Town Mad

Someone in Milford, MA, has a lot of time on their hands and the desire to annoy everyone in town. This person is leaving dozens of pairs of pantyhose, almost always black and queen sized, are frequently left near a school bus stop. Some pairs are new, some used. One day, Milford resident Laurie Warich picked up 43 pairs. The police are investigating the case, however, the only crime being committed is littering, and the city’s police department doesn’t have the resources to focus on the case. Shouldn’t they just ask drugstore cashiers if anyone’s bought them out of pantyhose lately? [AP via CBS News] Keep reading »

    No Porn For Troops

You can serve the entire country in the military, but the military won’t let you serve yourself. Did you know that our troops in Iraq aren’t allowed porn? (If only The Frisky’s cookies could talk, we’d never get drafted!) Our poor overseas personnel who are risking their lives aren’t even allowed to have dirty magazines. All they get are visits from Jessica Simpson. While the no porno rule supposedly isn’t strictly enforced for combat troops, it just got a contractor sent home. ITT small-arms repairman Brian Sayler was given a free lap dance and some DVDs while on leave visiting his hometown. A Stoughton, Massachusetts stripper named Cassidey gave him some of her films for free, which he brought back to Iraq with him. When his bunk was searched, the poor patriot was promptly fired. Isn’t this the wrong battle to be fighting? [Boston Magazine] Keep reading »

Pregnant Teen Says There Was No Pact

The possible pregnancy pact story continues! One of the pregnant teens, 17-year-old Lindsey Oliver, told Good Morning America there was, in fact, no pact, just as reader Go-To-Girl suspected. “No. There was definitely no pact. There was a group of girls who decided that they were gonna … they were already pregnant before they decided this. That they were gonna help each other with their kids so they could finish school and raise their kids together, to do the right thing was their decision. Not, let’s get pregnant, like, as a group,” she said. Her boyfriend said she was on birth control, and they weren’t planning on getting pregnant. It’s interesting to hear his perspective. Andrew Psalidas is 20 and goes to community college. “It was definitely hard to begin with,” Andrew said. “Now, we have to deal with everybody knowing that she is having a baby … now it’s like, she’s ‘one of those Gloucester girls having a baby,’ so it’s like we’re doing something wrong when we’re trying to do everything we can to make it right for the mistake that we made.” He actually sounds really mature and makes a good point.
