Contrary to popular belief, all mascaras are not made equal. Case in point: Diorshow, one of the few cult favorite beauty products wherein literally everybody is in the cult. Beauty addicts world over, whether they apply makeup for a living or simply dabble in perfecting their own face, are well-informed of the magic that is the $25 mascara. While I wouldn’t so much as blink at spending $25 on, say, a gorgeous lipstick (that’s $10 cheaper than my favorite Yves Saint Laurent!) that has the potential to last for years if used properly, mascara has far less integrity. In fact, you’re supposed to toss it after just three months of use. Devoted to long, thick black lashes, but burned by the hefty price tag on Diorshow and my other favorite, Chanel Inimitable, I made it my personal beauty mission to find a drugstore mascara that would give me the same lusty Kardashian-lash effect for less than half the price. I’m sure everyone will empathize with my terrible, terrible problem of having such naturally long eyelashes. It’s hard, I swear! Here’s why: my eyelashes are constantly tapping against my upper cheeks and flaking. As a result, every mascara I’ve ever worn ends up giving me raccoon eyes by noon. I was almost about to give up on mascara entirely until a Fairydrops wand landed on my desk. Not only is Fairydrops water- and sweat-resistant so it doesn’t rub off on my upper cheeks, but it’s gel-like texture doesn’t flake. Ever. I can’t believe how much better it is from other mascaras I’ve worn all my life. Go figure it was invented in Japan! I had never head of Fairydrops before, but consider me a new convert their mascara.
I’m slightly obsessed with having long, luxurious eyelashes. Tell me a beauty treatment will give the appearance of curled and thick lashes, and I’ll say, “When’s my appointment?” I’ve had lash extensions that were so thick they prevented my natural lashes from growing. And I’ve also had my natural lashes permed. Unfortunately, the curl made applying mascara difficult and time-consuming. Of course, false eyelashes have intrigued me, but even after practicing, I still can’t apply them with deft. That’s why I was so excited to learn about Kiss Premium Eyelashes, which have patent-pending Red Application Strings for easy application. Keep reading »
I’ve become quite the mascara junkie in recent years. I will try anything that promises to both lengthen and thicken my eyelashes. MAC Haute & Naughty Lash gives lashes a natural definition and pack on the drama. How’s this possible? Well, it’s all in the brush … Keep reading »
If we’re being totally honest, the main reason we wanted to try out Givenchy’s new mascara was the weird-looking brush. Check that thing out! It looks like a miniature mace. But covered in lash-lengthening liquid instead of metal spikes! Fun! Really, though, it’s all kinds of fun. The smaller brush definitely takes a couple applications to get used to, but we didn’t poke ourselves in the eyes with it and the whole application process was far less terrifying than expected. It’s a clever campaign for a tear-proof mascara, but did anyone really not know that Ricky Martin is gay? If memory serves, those hips are almost as honest as Shakira’s. [Fashion Indie] Keep reading »
