What’s Your Earliest Fashion Memory?

Reason #327 why I love Mary-Kate Olsen: She, too, isn’t bashful about her past fashion choices, and is perhaps the queen of bad kid style. In a quote caught by Elle magazine, she says, “My first favorite clothing item was a pair of spandex shorts with fringe on them! Leopard and white spandex.” Wow. Honestly, those sound kind of amazing. See, my 4-year-old self would have been all over them. [Twitter]

Like any self-respecting 5-year-old girl, I took it upon myself to curate my fashion sense early on. Since my parents were the bohemian “let her be creative and wear whatever” types, I somehow came to acquire a shamelessly distinctive wardrobe (purchased, I assume, with Monopoly money). It started with all things gold. Keep reading »

The Fashion Peacekeepers: The Olsen Twins

Sometimes we feel like Us Weekly‘s “The Fashion Police” and other similar style critics can be a tad harsh. Also, they tend to have these really boring, conservative styles and we have to wonder what their real fashion credentials are. (Case in point: US Weekly‘s “Top Cops” include random comedian Stefanie Novik and Chet Cannon of “The Real World, Brooklyn.” When did they ever go to design school!?) The Fashion Peacekeepers are here to say, hey, can’t everyone’s styles just get along?

Oh you Fashion Police! You’re so … predictable. Of course they hate the way Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen look at this Opening Ceremony party in Japan and added them to their lineup, but we beg to differ. First off, let’s think of the context here: like it or not, Opening Ceremony is a hipper-than-thou avant-garde kind of boutique that’s all about experimental fashion. (If you don’t believe me watch this highly entertaining video starring Chloe Sevigny.) Second, this is Tokyo, where lots of young folk pop similar “fun” headgear on their heads the minute they step out of the office in the evening. Believe me, they just earned, like, 10 million cool points from their Japanese fan base. Thirdly, they just look downright cute. In summation, we’re pretty sure their inspiration was our recent post on how wearing animal ears is the hottest new thing. We called that shiz over a month ago. [E!] Keep reading »

Everyone Has “Off” Style Days, Including Mary-Kate

Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted leaving the gym this weekend, looking not quite her normal hobo-chic self. This just goes to show that rocking the “just rolled out of bed” look can actually take some work. We’re sure Mary-Kate was just caught on an off-day, although we have to say that this unflattering get-up is particularly out of character for the normally well-styled Olsen twin.

Letting yourself go can actually be great every now and then—not giving a crap if you wear makeup to the grocery store, or being OK with spending an entire weekend without showering. Do you ever let yourself go from time to time? If so, why? Fatigue? Relationship troubles? Vacation? How long does it last? As for us, we admit to occasionally indulging in a week of bad style and poor eating to jump-start a renewed regime. [FashionIndie.com] Keep reading »

John Stamos Bringing “Full House” To A Theater Near You

John Stamos is bringing down the house…more like “Full House.” The sitcom’s star is working on a plan to bring Uncle Jesse and the gang back to the big screen for a “Full House” movie, but don’t expect Ashley and Mary-Kate to take turns sucking on a pacifier. Stamos is recasting the show for the film version, which he told The New York Daily News “would probably take place in the early years of the sitcom,” which graced TVs across the country from 1987 to 1995. Stamos hopes James Franco will slick up his hair and take over his role as Uncle Jesse. He’d love for Steve Carell to channel Bob Saget as papa Danny Tanner, and for Tracy Morgan to get goofy as best friend Joey Gladstone. After the jump, some of our suggestions for Stamos and whatever lucky writer gets to pen this script. Keep reading »

Did Mary-Kate Ditch Her BF For Jonah Hill?

The National Enquirer reports that Mary-Kate Olsen and Jonah Hill went on a secret double-date at Chateau Marmont last week. “Mary-Kate and Jonah sat close together and seemed totally into each other,” a source told the tabloid. “They were both wearing plaid shirts that almost matched. It was the cutest thing.” You might be thinking, Wait! Didn’t MK go to a Radiohead concert with her plaid-wearing boyfriend Nate Lowman the night before her supposed date with Jonah? Yes, yes, that is true. But the Enquirer has gotten so many things correct that it’s hard to completely ignore them. And no matter which guy she chooses, plaid wins. [AHN] Keep reading »
