It seems like a lot of actresses over 40 are stripping naked for roles these days. Sandra Bullock did it in “The Proposal,” Marisa Tomei got nakey in “The Wrestler” and “Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead,” Mary-Louise Parker took it all off on “Weeds,” Diane Keaton stripped in “Something’s Gotta Give,” and Kathy Bates went sans clothes in “About Schmidt.” What’s up with these relative oldsters getting undressed for the big and little screens? I was making my way through the subway station this morning, when BAM! there was Mary-Louise Parker, splayed out across a spider web wearing a green bustier and bejeweled undies. Great!, I thought, another season of “Weeds” is on its way. But why do they have to make Mary-Louise all sexy to advertise the show?

On “Weeds,” Mary-Louise Parker plays a sexy suburban mom who sells pot. Parker is cool with the druggy persona, but she isn’t happy about having to strip down during last season’s finale. In the scene, she bears all in a bathtub and the camera lingers on her boobs, a shot which obviously ended up all over the internet in a clip titled: “Mary Louise Shows off Her Big Nipples.” But was this nude scene unnecessary—or totally awesome?

“I smashed it on the bed frame. Good for me, right? How’s that for commitment? Fantastic!”—Mary Louise Parker, explaining how she broke her toe filming a love scene for Weeds
