[Amy Winehouse and I] spent a little time together and talked about [working together]. But, what little time we had, well, it was tense. She was in a bad state, God knows why. I think that the Adele thing had Amy freaked out. She liked her, but Adele’s success was making Amy feel upset, competitive, restless. Anyway, we lost touch briefly. And before she and I could really start the process of beginning a new album, it was too late. 

–Mark Ronson reveals that Amy Winehouse, with whom he worked on her “Back To Black” album, was feeling really competitive and anxious about the success of another young, talented British female with a big voice: Adele.

Twelve previously unheard Amy Winehouse songs will be released on December 5 in an album where a portion of the proceeds will go to a charity set up in the singer’s memory. Amy recorded the 12 songs, which have been tweaked by her longtime collaborators (including Mark Ronson), at various points during her career. The songs will include favorites she performed in concert, like “Valerie” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”; “Body & Soul,” which she recorded with Tony Bennett before her death; and a brand new song called “Between The Cheats.” Amy’s dad Mitch Winehouse called the album “incredibly beautiful” and a “fitting tribute.” Aww, now my eyes are watering. Amy Winehouse has come out of “hiatus” to spawn a new single, “It’s My Party.” The track was produced by Mark Ronson, and it’s a cover of Lesley Gore’s 1963 track of the same name. So … how does it sound? Well, I’ll let you be the judge. To me, it sounds, and I hate to say this, slurry. Musically, it’s nothing new: Motown redux. Vocally, it’s kind of sad. It’s a good day to be Gucci. The Italian luxury house is all over the news today for not one, not two, but three (and a half) different announcements.

  • They’re launching a multi-city pop-up store starting this October in New York City. From there the store will move to London, Berlin, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Gucci aficionados will be able to pick from 18 exclusive sneakers — 16 for men and two for women. Hot on the, er, heels of that news was the announcement that DJ and sneaker-addict Mark Ronson will be designing special kicks for the upcoming store. [Elle UK]
  • But you don’t have to wait till then to score a pair of Gucci kicks. Go to Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) tomorrow morning for deeply discounted Gucci goodies. The discount shoe chain just revealed that it will be selling shoes, belts, luggage and handbags from Gucci starting (tomorrow) Thursday morning at 9 a.m. for up to 60 percent off at stores nationwide.   • And if the publicity and profit they’re generating from all this isn’t enough, please add winning a lawsuit to the mix. A judge ruled in favor of Gucci America today in a suit between the company and Gucci family members, Jennifer and Gemma (ex-wife and daughter of the founder’s grandson, Paolo Gucci).     The Daily Hotness: Mark Ronson

    From Lily Allen to Amy Winehouse, everybody wants Mark Ronson. And we want him too! Especially after seeing him last night on the Brit Awards (the UK’s equivalent of the Grammys), where he took home the Award for Best British Male. Ronson performed in a tight, 60′s soul-style blue suit, with his name in lights, and the dashing music man showed us how good he is with his hands, accompanying artists like Amy Winehouse on a 12-string guitar. The DJ turned producer has also created two critically acclaimed solo albums and started his own record label, but Mark still hasn’t found what he’s looking for. Just last week, he split with his long-term girlfriend. If you can’t get enough of Mark, here he is in multiples, playing all the members of the backing band in the video for his cover of Radiohead’s “Just”.
