Quotable: Marc Jacobs Is Tortured, Attracted To Yellow

“I’m as tortured as ever, I see my shrink once a week, have all the same mood swings, I can sit there the night before a show and think, ‘What if they hate it? What if my life is over and I am homeless?’ … But I also have a certain amount of self-awareness at this point, and I recognize all those neuroses are just human. It’s why I think now I am attracted to yellow. It’s positive; it’s the optimistic choice.”

Nothing Sketch About MJ’s Miss Sketchy Laptop Case

Maybe it’s because we’re bloggers, but for us, our computers rank among our most prized possessions. In fact, some of us would even say that our primary relationship is (sadly) with a laptop. To be fair, Lappy can be better than a boyfriend—he keeps you warm in bed, cuddles up with you any time to watch a movie, and is there for you in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep. So, we like to take good care of good ole Lappy McLapperson by making sure he’s dressed up in a swank case, like this Marc by Marc Jacobs denim sheath decorated with a multicolor sketch print. True, the girl illustrated on the cover doesn’t look too happy, but that’s the same look we’d get if Lappy broke up with us. Best to keep a reminder around so we treat him well.

Style Buzz: The $42,500 Vogue Internship and Marc’s Matching Tats

  • Designer auction site OohILove may have gotten around Louis Vuitton’s infamous No Sales Ever mandate. Or else the bags they’re calling authentic are counterfeit. [Styleite]
  • Prepare for the fashion orgy that is the Met Gala by looking over outfits from Met Galas gone by. [FabSugar]
  • A week-long internship at Vogue just sold for $42,500. That means the lucky (read “insane”) winner will be paying about $150/hour. To Intern. Vomit. [The Cut]

Time Only Has Room For One Designer

Time magazine takes it upon itself to narrow down the 100 most influential people in the world on a yearly basis to create the “Time 100″ list. Along with the requisite world leaders — Barack Obama, Bill Clinton — a few fashion people generally earn a spot for their efforts. But this year, the list includes just one designer, Marc Jacobs. In the issue, Victoria Beckham offers her opinion on Marc, claiming he’s “one of the most interesting and intellectual men” she’s ever known and crediting him with innovative designs and the skill to determine trends. And I certainly agree. After all, the man walks around in a kilt and has fashion editors scrambling to their seats in order to see his shows. My problem is with the rest of the list. Do Robert Pattinson, Lady Gaga, and Simon Cowell really belong on the same level as leaders like the President? I’d argue that designers like Karl Lagerfeld or Ralph Lauren are a great deal more influential than a celebrity who doesn’t know how to wash his hair. View the full “Time 100″ here and draw your own opinion. [Time] Keep reading »

Itty Bitty Marc Jacobs Earrings, Equally Small Price

Oh, Piperlime. You’re like that kid in high school who was really, really cool but nobody knew it. You may not have that uber-trendy edge, but if we dig, we’re always finding cute little surprises. Take, for example, these teeny Marc by Marc Jacobs bow-shaped stud earrings that come in sexy black or virgin (ha, yeah right) white. First of all, it is a proven fact that anything miniaturized makes us squeal with joy. Second, we’ll definitely say yes to some rad MJ accessories for not even a Ulysses S. Grant. (That’s a $50 bill, and yeah, we had to look it up to double-check. What? It’s a Monday!)

Beauty Test Drive: Marc Jacobs “Biscotti” Splash Scent

There are so many fragrances to choose from this season. My new favorite everyday scent right now is Marc Jacobs “Biscotti” Splash Scent (sold exclusively at Nordstrom). The fragrance was inspired by the delectable treats found in patisseries, with notes of freesia, orange flower, pistachio blossom, and vanilla that combine into a truly crisp and fresh scent. Seriously, my mouth literally waters with each spritz in the morning. But don’t get me wrong; you won’t smell like a bakery because the vanilla is barely detectable. And since this is a 10-ounce bottle, you can spray as much as you want as often as you want without offending those around you. But you need to act quickly because it’s a limited edition, and you know you can’t have mine if Nordstrom runs out. [$68, Nordstrom] Keep reading »

When Tavi Met Marc

Well, lookie who I spotted while milling around backstage before Marc Jacobs‘ show — the designer himself, meeting silver-haired (um, yes) teen fashion blogger, Tavi, while getting his makeup done. It was the first time the two had met and Tavi was there to interview Marc for a video blog. When the makeup artist asked who Tavi was, Marc explained, describing her as “very stylish.” Tavi looked tickled. Keep reading »

Watch Fashion Shows From The Comfort Of Your Couch

As of today, Fashion Week is officially underway, but with the snow and cold temperatures, getting around in New York City is simply treacherous. This weather makes you want to sit on your couch in PJs and catch up on daytime television, doesn’t it? Thankfully, 12 designers (so far!) have plans to embrace the internet during Fashion Week and will livestream their shows online, which means not only is it possible to stay at home to see the new fashions, but for those whose invitation got lost in the mail, it’s still possible to attend. You can watch Marc Jacobs’ celeb-free show on his website, catch Rodarte and Alexander Wang thanks to ShowStudio, and preview the G-Star looks on their Facebook page. It’s fashion meets the tech world, and it’s much, much warmer in here. [My It Things] Keep reading »
