If I had a big ol’ budget for clothes and the power to snap my fingers and commission an entire wardrobe from one designer, I would immediately call up Mara Hoffman, hand her a briefcase full of dollar bills, and ask for her to just give me everything from her spring/summer 2015 collection. I’ve always loved her clothes, but her latest runway show at New York Fashion Week was the embodiment of breezy California cool, with a color scheme and mixture of prints that nod to the state’s hodgepodge of landscapes, from dusty desert hues to explosive sunburst bodices. This collection has the best vibes — check out some of my favorite pieces in the gallery below!
It’s that time of year again! That is, time for the the human clothing hangers better known as models to strut down the catwalks of Lincoln Center in beautiful, expensive and sometimes absurd designer clothing, for the Fall 2014 runway shows. Each day, we’ll present to you a selection of noteworthy shows so that, even if you can’t ultimately afford what you see (uh, we can’t), you’ll be up to date on the coming trends. Or at least have plenty of outfits, makeup and hair looks to drool over and/or laugh at. After the jump, the latest looks from J. Crew Collection, Mara Hoffman, and the weird and wacky Thom Browne… Keep reading »
There are so many shows, and not enough hours in the day to possibly go to all of them. Good thing, then, that we’ve got your New York Fashion Week coverage down. We’re not even half way through day two, and there’s already been nearly three dozen shows. We’ve whittled it down to a few of our faves from the third and fourth day of shows. I was totally droooooling over Whit’s prints, use of black and white, and the wide range of options, from dresses to wide-leg pants.
After the jump, check out more collections from Zimmermann, Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, Mara Hoffman and Rebecca Taylor… Keep reading »
Time to give credit where credit is due: while the rest of New York City hid indoors during Blizzard Nemo, the fashion industry went forward with Fashion Week as planned. The tents have never seen so many pairs of Sorel boots! Let’s see what designers Christian Siriano, Mara Hoffman, Jason Wu, Jill Stuart, rag & bone, and Rebecca Minkoff sent down the runway for Fall 2013. Keep reading »

When designer Mara Hoffman
presented her collection at Fashion Week this year, she went the artsy route by projecting a psychedelic film in the background as her models walked the runway. Hopefully, viewers were distracted by her designs, because if they had wanted a movie, they got something totally different. “Hysterical Levitation” is sort of like “The Blair Witch Project” meets M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Village” set to modern dance — until they all realize they’re tripping on acid, and everything is happy. If you have a better interpretation, we’d like to hear it. [Nylon
