Fashion Addicts: Drug Dealers Make Manolos Out Of Cocaine

Drug dealers can be so crafty when it comes to smuggling narcotics. Spanish police recently busted a gang of dealers who figured out how to mold cocaine into replicas of Manolo Blahnik shoes. When arrested, the six dealers, five Colombians and one Spaniard, possessed $630,000 worth of cocaine that had been mixed with a liquid to form a paste that was carefully sculpted and painted to mimic luxury high heels. Each pair of coke shoes has an estimated worth of $70,000 — while a real pair of Manolos can cost upwards of $500. At the top of the drug-smuggling ring was a couple who organized the transport of the cocaine from Colombia to Spain, where the paste was changed back to powder and distributed for sale in Spain and throughout Europe.

Replicating cocaine paste to look like Manolo Blahnik shoes is just another indication that drug dealers are finding more inventive ways to smuggle their drugs. But even high fashion is no disguise against Spanish police, who have also found cocaine disguised as replica sculptures, a cast for a man’s broken leg, and a complete 42-piece tea set. [NY Post

Fashion On Film: “God Save My Shoes” Documentary

Fashion insiders, like Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, and Tom Ford, are no strangers to the fashion-on-film documentary. But with “God Save My Shoes” we get an in-depth look at the relationship women have with their footwear. Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, and Bruno Frisoni are a few of the shoe designers who make an appearance in the doc, but some shoe-hoarders, like Dita Von Teese, Kelly Rowland, and Fergie, also speak from the heart about their love for shoes. The documentary will premiere in Paris during fashion week this fall, but we can check out more teasers until “God Save My Shoes” arrives stateside. [Racked] Keep reading »

The Fashion Peacekeepers: Ashley Olsen’s Gothic Chic

Sometimes we feel like Us Weekly‘s “The Fashion Police” and other similar style critics can be a tad harsh. Also, they tend to have these really boring, conservative styles and we have to wonder what their real fashion credentials are. (Case in point: US Weekly‘s “Top Cops” include random comedian Stefanie Novik and Chet Cannon of “The Real World, Brooklyn.” When did they ever go to design school!?) The Fashion Peacekeepers are here to say, hey, can’t everyone’s styles just get along?

Fashion police, show us your badges. Ashley Olsen showed up to the Art of Elysium Gala in Los Angeles in this stunning Alexander McQueen gown and Manolo Blahnik heels. While the “experts” on the Fashion Police at E! consider this ultra bang on-trend look a fashion faux pas, we think she looks devilishly chic. Dark, raspberry lips are so in right now, and look especially fresh and elegant when paired with peachy-nude frocks. We think she hit the mark in this getup. Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: Manolo Blahnik Hates Celebrities

“I hate celebrities. All those pointless girls — I won’t name names, but you know who I mean. They are ‘famous.’ Ridiculous. I like women with style: actresses like Uma Thurman, icons like Audrey Hepburn. I like women with style to wear my shoes.”

Carrie Bradshaw Gives Up Her Manolos!

Watch out Manolo Blahnik. You’ve been put back on the shelf.

While Carrie Bradshaw originally gave the heels their fame with her shoe obsession and fashion sense, it seem she’s moved on. In the upcoming “Sex and the City” sequel, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character has given up fawning over Manolos in favor of red soles from Christian Louboutin. Is this the result of too much complaining over unwanted fame from Mr. Blahnik? Either way, the “SATC”-obsessed are sure to attach their heel addiction to the iconic Louboutins just as fast as they did to those Manolos.
