Snakeskin Nails: Would You Pay $300 For A Manicure?

You may tote a boa handbag or strut around in python pumps, but now your nails can get in on the reptile action. Nail artist Terri Silacci has created a gel manicure using snakeskin.

The Monterey, California-based manicurist tells the “Today” show that these scaly digits were inspired by snakeskin her son brought home from his science class.

“One snake’s trash is a toenail’s treasure,” says Silacci. “I find that the initial reaction from people is, that’s weird, that’s disgusting. And then they say, ‘I want it. And I want it right away.’” Keep reading »

Who Wants Hypercolor Nails?

Speaking of things from the ’90s having their comeuppance, do you remember Hypercolor t-shirts? I absolutely loved them, in theory. In practice, I didn’t like that people took it as license to try to make a hand print on your stomach. I also hated how the fabric always looked a different color around the armpits. Gross! But, I am thoroughly obsessed with this nail polish, In the Mood, that changes colors depending on your body temperature. The polish comes in all sorts of color combinations—blue and green, pink and purple, yellow and orange. If your nails are long, the polish looks like a super colorful French manicure since your nail bed is much warmer than the tips. Count me in for Guilty, the blue/purple combo. Lesson Learned: Probably Not A Good Idea To Call 911 After A Bad Mani

OK, we get the disappointment and annoyance when you get a crappy manicure. Most of the time, however, we just shut up, begrudgingly hand over the 15 bucks and live with it. That’s not the case with one Florida woman who decided to call 911 after something (it’s not quite clear what) went wrong during her manicure. She ended up calling 911 several times—once because she wasn’t satisfied with the officer who arrived on the scene and a couple other times because she claimed her long nails kept hitting the “redial” button on her phone. The end result? Jail. Yup. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »
