Michelle Williams Continues Her Depressing-But-Good Movie Streak

Since hitting the big time with her “Dawson’s Creek” character Jen Lindley, Michelle Williams has gone on to make mostly independent films. Besides “Brokeback Mountain,” a lot of her movies haven’t landed in theaters—at least not in wide release—and I’ve Netflixed a few of them recently. Right now, I’m halfway through “Wendy and Lucy,” about a young woman who lives out of her car with her dog, and I have to watch it in parts so I don’t get too down. It’s great, but depressing as hell. I think I might have the same reaction to her and Gael Garcia Bernal’s upcoming film, “Mammoth,” which comes to theaters Nov. 20. The movie tells the story of a young family that seems to have it all, until a series of events change their lives. Do you like movies that show the sad side of life? Or do you stick to comedies and lighter films?
