  • Burberry is branching out from trench coats and into makeup that can be worn with trench coats. More importantly, will the packaging be plaid? [WWD]

How To Bronze Without Channeling An Oompah Loompah

The second Sprign rolls around people start to think it’s the perfect excuse to go batsh*t crazy with bronzer. Dude, it’s barely 60 degrees out, no one believes you’ve magically become ten shades darker in this weather. So skip the unrealistic, Oompah Loompah stage of your bronzing and keep it classy with a few bronzers that’ll make you glow, not blind. The ladies over at Elle UK have a few suggestions, and so do we. Personally, when the urge not to look like the undead strikes, I turn to NARS bronzer in Laguna with its slight shimmer and great looking packaging. Keep reading »

Beauty Danger! Eyeliner Isn’t Safe?

I’m a bit of an eyeliner junkie. Every single day, seven days a week, and sometimes more than once a day, I line the inner rims of my eyelids and add mascara. On major makeup days, I’ll outline my entire eye in black eyeliner to draw even more attention to my deep dark look. I’ve never questioned my own health and safety in applying my eyeliner this way. After all, I don’t share my makeup, don’t use contacts, and have never had eye issues. So you can imagine my surprise in reading that this application causes eye infections and that ophthalmologists highly advise against it! Before you get too depressed about having to change your makeup application, there’s a simple fix. Keep reading »

How To Pull Off The No-Makeup Look

Going sans fards is trendy right now, but there are a few fashion ladies who’ve been doing it since long before it was “cool.” T Magazine picked out a few of the coolest makeup-free women in fashion and we wholeheartedly agree with the list. First up — and our favorite — is Kelly Cutrone, PR maven and total badass. Also included were eco-conscious Barneys’ buyer Julie Gilhart, Celine designer Phoebe Philo and a few other natural, hot women. T says Philo pulls off her makeup-free look “by enveloping her face in a cloud of cigarette smoke,” but we’ve got a few suggestions less likely to result in cancer, after the jump. What’s That On My Fingernails? Oh, Just Some “Jizz” Nail Polish

Call me prissy, but … ew. The painfully hip jewelry designers/bloggers at BleachBlack have proudly created a fetching new nail polish color called “Jizz.” It’s a sheen, pearly white — both “punk and feminine,” says Refinery29. I think I’ll stick with Essie and their polish colors that haven’t been inspired by ejaculation. But if you desperately need “Jizz” on your fingers, it should be available on NeedSupply.com for about $12.95 soon. [Refinery29] Keep reading »

Beauty How-To: Make Lipstick Last

lip brush

They don’t call it lip “stick” just because of its shape. The stuff should stay on! We’ve pulled a coffee cup away from our mouths, just to find our hot pink lip-print all over the thing. Not cute. Luckily, we’ve got the ways to make your color stay put, right after the jump … Keep reading »

Quotable: Jessica Simpson On Wearing Makeup For Marie Claire Cover

“I absolutely was not wearing makeup. Look at the cover — you can tell! My nose has been broken a couple of times. If you look at a retouched cover of me and you look at the Marie Claire cover, you can see there’s a big difference … I really wanted to show women that I’m just a normal person. I take the pictures. I don’t know what the magazine is going to do with it after that. I don’t know what the photographer is going to do with it after that, so it was important for me to make sure that they absolutely did not retouch. I just wanted people to see how I really am.”

Jessica Simpson responds to those who said she was indeed wearing makeup for the May cover of Marie Claire. Compare her Allure cover with the Marie Claire one. Do you believe her? [Us Weekly] Keep reading »

Chicks Apply Makeup With No Mirror, But Why Are They Topless?

Vice magazine recently ran a rather clever beauty story in their March issue (one that I missed because my ridic hipster days are long over, God bless ‘em). They asked several American Apparel models “real girls” to apply their makeup without mirrors — like, ZOMG! — and had well-respected photographer Richard Kern snap the results. Now, I have to hand it to the girls: They didn’t do such a bad job, considering the circumstances. However, I do have a couple of problems with the gallery of images … Keep reading »

Straight From The FDA, The Truth About Organic Cosmetics

When you pick up a fancy “organic” powder, do you actually know what that means? We don’t. But we somehow have the impression that it’s a more wholesome and healthy product produced in a verdant field, far, far away from any industrial factories. Time to get educated. A recent report released by the FDA sets the record straight about what the organic label means.

What qualifies a beauty product as organic? Well[FDA.gov] Keep reading »
