Madonna Used Child Labor To Create New Fashion Line

We’ll have to wait until August to see Madonna‘s much-hyped new fashion brand, MG icon, but we had to wonder why the Material Girl chose to launch with a junior’s line at Macy’s instead of, say, a more sophisticated collection at Barneys. Turns out, it was all a matter of convenience: In a recent AP interview, Madonna claimed that daughter Lourdes was the brains behind the threads: “Really she does most of the work, honestly.” And she told “Access Hollywood” that Lourdes comes in to start working while she’ll “sit back and watch.” Well, alrighty then. Lourdes is only 13, but she does have a killer fashion sense, and designing clothes beats the chores we used to have to do. And we have to admire Madonna’s cajones on this one, as opposed to all these stars denying they ripped off their so-called designs lately. Instead of lying about it, just put it all out there. You’ll sleep better at night. [NBC New York] Keep reading »

Madonna Casts Vera Farmiga And Abbie Cornish In Her New Flick

Madonna‘s first attempt at directing a movie—”Filth and Wisdom,” the story of a Ukranian musician making ends meet as a dominatrix—didn’t go over so hot. It got meh reviews at the Berlin Film Festival, and only got a limited release, though it was available OnDemand. But that won’t stop the Material Girl from trying again. She is set to direct a new movie, “W.E.,” a historical drama about King Edward VIII, who gave up the throne to propose to married American socialite Wallis Simpson. While Madonna had considered playing the role of Wallis herself, earlier this week, it was announced that Vera Farmiga of “Up In The Air” would bring said socialite to life. “[Madonna] approached me,” said Vera. “We sat for a cup of tea and again for a cup of tea. Hopefully, it will all come together.” [Ace Showbiz]

And now, Abbie Cornish has apparently also signed on for the film, too. Keep reading »

Madonna Gets Together With Dolce & Gabbana, Produces Sunglasses

Ah, Madonna. So elusive. So enigmatic. So impenetrable. If only she weren’t wearing those dark sunglasses all the time! Then maybe we would know her. Or perhaps not. If you want to throw shade like the Material Girl, you can now, thanks to the fact that Miss M and Dolce & Gabbana are collaborating on a line of sunglasses. The brand-within-a-brand will be called MDG (which sort of sounds like a gyno office, but whatever), the shades will go for $248 to $289 a pair, and the sexy campaign was shot by Steven Klein (natch). “[Madonna] is very exacting and a professional who seeks perfection in everything she does, and this was no exception,” spews Stefano Gabbana. But will wearing them make you super famous? Maybe. [WWD] Keep reading »

Move Over Lindsay, Madonna Is The Next Celebrity Designer

The Material Girl is in talks to launch a new line of clothing, accessories, shoes, and intimates exclusively at Macy’s. This would be Madge’s first venture into the fashion world after that fugly unique line of track suits for H&M. The name of the in-talks line? “Truth or Dare,” as in the title of the 1991 “film” that documented the star’s Blond Ambition tour. Let’s just hope the T or D line will be better than the movie. Marc Jacobs Thinks Celebrities Are “Boring”

Marc Jacobs and business partner Robert Duffy are banning celebrities from their shows at Fashion Week. For many of us, watching the who’s who of the front row is almost as exhilarating as seeing the latest fall collection, but according to Duffy celebrities are just “boring.” Granted, the team claimed that celebrities were verboten last year, even though we saw a spike-faced Lady Gaga and Madonna chillin’ by the runway. Apparently the Gaga was given special exemption from the “boring celebrity” rule because (besides the fact that she is ANYTHING but boring) the diva was headlining the after party. As for Madge … she just showed up uninvited. [NYmag.com] Keep reading »

Does Madonna Have A Secret Son?

Oh, snap! Could Madonna have a 36-year-old son she gave up for adoption as a newborn when she was teenager? A new film called “Material.Boy” tells the story of a young Madonna who got knocked up at 15 and gave birth to a baby boy at a hospital in Michigan in 1973. Who knows if there’s any truth to the tale, but the flick sure does look slick. [via Jezebel and WoW] Keep reading »

Oh, Jesus, If Only You Weren’t Smoking …
