5 Things I Learned From Last Night’s “Mad Men” Episode

With the merging companies, there is trouble, tension and transition everywhere. Merging clients and jobs, dealing with logistics of job security and office space — the office is in turmoil, and so is everyone’s life around it. And this is all before the assassination of Bobby Kennedy. Unlike the MLK Jr. assassination, ”Mad Men” chose to put this assassination at the tail end of an episode that centered on the chaos of the character’s lives, rather than the chaos associated with this tragedy.

When did Ted become such a bad ass? Loved, loved, loved Ted this episode. It took him a little bit to find his groove—but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who wouldn’t act this way at first when becoming business partners with Don Draper. I mean, DON DRAPER. Ted feels insignificant, I think he feels a little bit like a phoney—as a fraud. He can’t drink like Don. He doesn’t have the same confidence. But once he is reminded that, yes, he owns half this building. He’s a goddamn pilot and he is the only chivalrous man that works at this ad agency, he gets his swagger back. Don put it best: “No matter what I say, you’re the guy who flew us up here in his own plane.” Period. Read more on College Candy…

Blow Jobs, Ladies!

Blow job, ladies. Blow. Jobs.

In last night’s episode of “Mad Men,” Megan Draper’s saucy French-speaking minx of a mother was back in town, and she had some advice for Megan, whose distance from husband Don was all but obvious. “He may think you belong more to other people than he does to you,” Marie says, having just seen her daughter sign autographs for two teen girls. Her advice for Megan, if she wants to keep her husband interested in her, is to stop dressing like his wife. “The only thought he should have at this dinner is how quickly he can get between your legs,” she says in a bit of TMI sex advice. Megan giggles but complies, and sure enough, after a hilariously uncomfy business dinner with clients, to which Megan wore a chocha-showing dress, Don is rarin’ to go.

I don’t think Marie is wrong that Don has become distant from Megan as her own star has risen — but I certainly don’t think that that is her fault or that it’s her responsibility alone to keep their marriage hot and spicy. But I won’t deny that Marie’s advice worked, at least for the time being. A little while later in the episode, when Don returns home late, Megan gives what I think is the first blow job in the show’s history. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Anyway, check out two clips above and some GIFs of the episode’s other great moments (spoilers ahead!) after the jump! Keep reading »

Separated At Birth? Sarah Polley & Elisabeth Moss

Yesterday, I looked at the picture on the left, of actress/director Sarah Polley, and thought, It’s Peggy from “Mad Men.” So then I looked up pictures of Elisabeth Moss, who plays Peggy. And while they may not look exactly alike, they do sort of resemble each other, don’t you think?

What “Mad Men” Characters Would Look Like Today

Remember at the beginning of season two of “Mad Men” when Don went to visit the doctor for an insurance physical? The doctor told him that he “lives too hard” and then told him to take it easy. So what did Don do next? Tucked down a full, high-cholesterol breakfast like a man.

There are no fruit smoothies, standing desks or low-carb diets to be found anywhere within the offices of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. So we decided to enlist Photoshop wizard Kristy Puchko to come up with what the characters of Mad Men would look like today if they really subsisted off a diet of nothing but cigarettes, scotch, steak and casual flings. Check out the surprising results at The FW…

Is it just me, or has this season of “Mad Men” been so depressing? Well written and smart, as always, but just dire. Six seasons in, Don Draper is still the same unfaithful cad that he’s always been, seemingly incapable of evolving. I used to have so much empathy in my heart for Don, but after last night’s episode, I think he might just be among the most interesting but irredeemable characters on TV — which puts him in good company, alongside Tony Soprano, Walter White, and Dexter Morgan. There was plenty of firm biz in this episode (it’s Don vs. Peggy in the battle for Ketchup!), but let’s focus on the juicier stuff… Keep reading »

This post contains spoilers!

Sunday nights are no longer full of Monday dread. I have something to look forward to at the very end of the weekend: a mind-bending episode of “Mad Men.” The show you love, full of characters you hate, and issues you hope to only deal with through barrier of your TV screen: infidelity, corporate hell, violence, and mortality.

For an office drama centered around a 1960s advertising agency, “Mad Men” has tackled very nuanced issues that remain relevant topics in our day and age. Anyone who watches the show knows the terrible way that women are treated: sexual harassment, rape, sexism, domestic violence, infidelity. And as of Sunday, all of the major female characters have experienced pregnancy. Keep reading »
