Courteney Cox isn’t just a cougar in real life (hubby David Arquette is nine years her junior,=) now she’s going to play one on TV! Cox is currently developing a new sitcom called “Cougar Town” with former “Friends” writer and “Scrubs” creator, Bill Lawrence. Now, who would live in Cougar Town? Mariah Carey, Elizabeth Taylor, Janice Dickinson….heck, I hope to move there someday myself! [Variety]
And in other casting news, Jon Hamm, who plays hot Don Draper on “Mad Men”, is in talks to do a multi-episode stint on one of our favorite comedies, the Tina Fey-helmed “30 Rock.” Thank goodness — something to tide us over until “Mad Men” comes back for season three. [EW.com] Keep reading »
Here are some of the things I learned from watching the second season finale of AMC’s Emmy Award winning show “Mad Men”:
In the psudeo-historical world of “Mad Men”, work days start at 10 in the morning, because professionals needed the extra time to style their perfect hair.
Men who sleep around are studs and women who sleep around are sluts.
Also: men are big babies with trembling eyes, and women have icicles for spines.
But the most important thing I learned from the last episode of “Mad Men” is that Don Draper, the chain-smoking, hard-drinking, skirt-chasing lead character, is a kind of pop Rorschach test for modern day cats and dames. Both men and women see something different in Don, played with chilled beefiness by Jon Hamm, and what we see is proof that there is still a primal disconnect between what women want in a man and what men want to be. Over the weekend, on “Saturday Night Live”, Don Draper, er, Jon Hamm, did a hilarious sketch with dating advice based on his irresistible “Mad Men” character’s mad skills. But he’s not the only one with advice on how to lure women to your love shack. ”The Pick Up Artist” is back on VH1 and Season 2 features yet another flock of dudes, including a 45-year-old virgin, who worship the game playin’ guru with guyliner. While women go weak in the knees for Draper’s charms, men seem to think Mystery has the answer to getting into panties. So, let’s compare their tricks of the trade and see how they score! Last night’s episode of “Mad Men” was a rough one. Rough because it was the last one of the season — but the show has been picked up for season three — and rough because I didn’t think my heart could break any more for Betty Draper. The dichotomy between her life and Peggy’s was glaring — Betty has found out she’s pregnant and despite hinting to her doctor and to her friend that she “cannot have a baby right now”, she does not have the right to choose. Her doctor says she is a woman of means; her friend seems deaf to Betty’s hint that she wants to end her pregnancy. And so, in the end, she screwed a guy in a bar powder room and then took Don back.

Last night, my boyfriend, I mean, Jon Hamm (Don Draper on “Mad Men”) hosted “Saturday Night Live” — he was actually very, very funny! He IS perfect. Sigh. Anyway, in the skit above, Don Draper delivers his “Guide To Picking Up Women”. Quite honestly, this would work on me. Full transcript, after the jump. Keep reading »
Last night’s “Mad Men” had an all-too-rare subplot involving Joan and her betrothed, The Handsome Doctor . In a previous episode, Doc’s abusive, douche-tastic tendencies were barely hinted at — “Didn’t you say you were getting me a drink?!” — but this episode confirmed it for any doubters. In one of the most disturbing scenes to have been featured on “Mad Men”, the good doctor forces Joan to have sex with him on the floor of Don Draper’s office despite her repeated protests and attempts to physically dissuade him. Perhaps the saddest and most resonant part of all is when she stops fighting and turns her head to stare fixedly at Don’s coffee table, resigned to her fate. Keep reading »
Last night’s episode of “Mad Men” gave viewers a much needed change of scenery — Don Draper and Pete Campbell flew out of Los Angeles to meet with various airline executives in pursuit of new business. But while Pete devoted his time to the task at hand, Draper took off for Palm Springs with a mysterious 21-year-old woman and band of pretentious, bohemian, and decidedly wealthy nomad friends. Don seemed to be incredibly intrigued by the laissez faire attitude of his latest conquest (yes, they did sleep together — so much for Don remaining faithful to his marriage) probably because she lives the kind of responsibility-free life that he kinda, sorta craves. It was fun to see the way L.A. was in the early ’60s, the bright sunshine of the poolside atmosphere a welcome change from the greyness of the Sterling Cooper offices. Also, Don Draper looks hot in sunglasses. Next week, it definitely seems like Don is going on a bit of a mission, taking time off from work to pursue something, or someone — there’s been a lot of questions surrounding what Don’s life was like as Dick Whitman. Might there be a love child out there? Keep reading »
“I’ve always had a bit of a walk — this girl’s got hips — but on the show it’s exaggerated. The first day, I put on those [retro] undergarments, and I was walking around the office like boom, boom, boom! They called ‘Cut,’ and I turned to [creator Matt Weiner and said, ‘That was Joan.’ And he said, ‘That was Joan.’ It all just dropped into place.” — Christina Hendricks on “Mad Men”‘s Joan Holloway in Page Six Magazine Keep reading »
The weekend is the perfect time to catch up on all the TV you’ve missed. Bravo will air marathons of “Project Runway” and “Rachel Zoe Project” just in time for the season finales next week. I’ll watch “Clean House: The Messiest Home in the Country” on Saturday to make myself feel less guilty about cleaning my own home. (I’m not really messy anyway.) Sunday continues to be the best for primetime viewing, especially the 10 o’clock hour. Keep reading »
The other day I asked Catherine, “Do you think I should dye my hair bright red like Joan Holloway on “Mad Men”?” Catherine said, “No” as if the idea was out of the question. I suppose she’s right. I’d need to have the milky white skin that actress Christina Hendricks is blessed with. An added bonus would be to be blessed with this woman’s Botticelli-esque figure, but that’s just dreamin’. Anyway, after the jump, some of Hendrick’s most glorious looks — a little more modern than Holloway’s, of course, but drool-worthy nonetheless. Keep reading »
