Return To The ’50s With Janie Bryant’s “Mad Men” Style

While you wait for Don Draper’s cigarette-smoking, alcohol-swilling hotness to return, the costume designer for “Mad Men” devised a solution to cure your withdrawal. After dressing Joan, Betty, and the boys in vintage designs for the past few seasons, Janie Bryant decided to launch her very own collection for QVC, obviously inspired by her work on the show. Meet Mod by Janie Bryant, which will include outerwear, jackets, sweaters, bottoms, handbags, and costume jewelry, is set to launch on September 29. In case you can’t wait that long, don’t stress. To coincide with the “Mad Men” premiere at the end of July, select pieces from the clothing line are set to appear on the QVC website this August so you can get your ’50s look on. “‘Mad Men’ has had such an influence on fashion in that women are dressing up more, so these are statement pieces that can change your outfit in an instant,” she explained. Fans of the show and style will find this collection is all in the details: detachable fur collars, lace, bright colors and patterns along with items that bring to mind the style of the ’50s and ’60s. Given the price range — $26 to $138 — this is a great way to jump into the vintage trend if you’re too lazy to dig through the bins at Goodwill or too grossed out to wear someone else’s clothes. The 2010 Emmy Nominations Are In And It’s A Big Year For “Glee,” “Mad Men,” And Conan O’Brien

This morning, the Primetime Emmy nominations were announced and, as usual, there were few surprises. The Lead Actor in a Drama series category is especially competitive, in my TV-obsessed opinion, with “Mad Men”‘s Jon Hamm facing off against critical faves Hugh Laurie (“House”), Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”), and Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad,” my current favorite show) — Matthew Fox (“Lost”) scored his first nomination, as did Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”). I love me some Don Draper and Dexter Morgan, but I’m pulling for Cranston, who plays Walter White on “Breaking Bad,” but like I said, I have a meth-like addiction to that show. Not that I know what meth addiction is like. Keep reading »

A Mashup Of “Mad Men” Come-Ons

Here’s a little something to get you in the mood for the premiere of “Mad Men” on July 25. Watch the swashbuckling men of Sterling Cooper and the totally cheesy lines they throw at the ladies. My personal highlight: Peggy‘s retort, “I’m in the persuasion business and I’m very disappointed in your presentation.” Love her. [NY Mag] Keep reading »

Time To Get Giddy For “Mad Men” Season 4

I haven’t been giving the upcoming premiere of “Mad Men” its necessary attention. With things like Eric and Sookie sex to worry about, you can understand why it’s easy to get distracted. But now the teaser trailer for “Mad Men” season 4 has come around to remind me just how much I miss the show. Like the new poster, it isn’t giving too much away in terms of what to expect, but as long as Don is smoldering and Joan is being feisty, I am there. Keep reading »

Christina Hendricks Wants You To Buy This $130 Scarf

“Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks may be famous, but she’s still willing to lend her beauty and talent to her friends. Hendricks is a featured model on a friend’s Etsy shop, modeling this $130 wool scarf. Designer Tamara Mello sells her wares on Etsy under the names Blackbird Design House and Madre de Olivia, but she was also a bridesmaid in Hendricks’ wedding last year. Guess Hendricks was returning the favor? [The Wrap] Keep reading »

Sally Draper Of “Mad Men” Models Burberry Prorsum Adorably

Following in mom’s fashionable footsteps, Sally Draper — as in Don and Betty’s daughter on Mad Men — recently modeled Burberry Prorsum for Interview Magazine. Kiernan Shipka, the 10-year-old who plays Sally, actually looks weirdly appropriate wearing clothes ten sizes too big and 20 years too old for her. More images from the shoot, after the jump… Keep reading »

Peggy Olsen’s New Hair Is … Eww

Over the years, we’ve liked the way Peggy Olson’s style has progressed. Until now. Here is an image of her from the upcoming season, and it’s even more disappointing than the season’s teaser poster. Um, who attacked the girl with hairspray? And why so drab? Homegirl does not look good, which is a shame because actress Elisabeth Moss is so adorable. I guess this was the style back then? Will “Mad Men”‘s Season 4 Be As Boring As Its Poster?

If you had never watched “Mad Men” before, the poster for season four wouldn’t make it look like a very interesting show. Man stands in an empty office, staring out a window, with only a telephone? Bor-ing. I far preferred the symbolism in season three’s poster: a tense Don Draper sitting in his office with water swiftly rising up above his ankles. [EW.com] Keep reading »

Quotable: Elisabeth Moss Is Peggy Olson, Hear Her Roar

“A lot of older fans come up to me and say, ‘I was Peggy’ or ‘my mother was Peggy’. It makes you incredibly grateful for what they put up with. That kind of movement, that bravery, had obviously existed long before the ’60s. It’s hard to imagine how they did it, in a way. I have such admiration for these incredible women. And I don’t think they ever decided, ‘I’m going to break through the glass ceiling.’ The glass ceiling wasn’t invented until later. Peggy just wants to be recognized for who she is. She doesn’t want to be recognized as ‘I am woman, hear me roar.’ She just has good ideas and thinks, ‘Why can’t you listen to my ideas too?’”

“Mad Men” Star January Jones Allegedly Hits And Runs

Seems like January Jones is taking a page from the handbook of her “Mad Men” character, Betty Draper. After allegedly losing control of her Land Rover in LA last night and slamming into three parked cars, the TV star reportedly fled the scene, saying: “I can’t deal with this commotion.” TMZ is reporting that the LAPD has said no alcohol or drugs were involved in the hit-and-run accident and that January, who later returned to the scene, said she fled because paparazzi were following her. Maybe they were trying to catch her in another walk-of-shame. Does her walk home from the accident count? [via TMZ] Keep reading »
