Mackenzie Phillips is back on TV and this time she is shedding “the last vestige of the junkie [she] used be.” No, she’s not on “Celebrity Rehab” again, she’s on the OWN network’s “Extreme Clutter” with Peter Walsh. Yep, she has a little hoarding problem. She says her “hidden clutter,” which is mostly family memorabilia, is her way of hanging on to the past. With Peter’s help, she’s ready to let go of the things that have negative power and keep the things that have meaning for her future. Good for her for tackling her hoard.[Huffington Post]

Mackenzie Phillips Changes Her Tune About Her Relationship With Her Papa

Mackenzie Phillips recently revealed that she had an incestuous relationship with her father, Mamas & The Papas singer John Phillips. But now she’s changing her tune about the relationship. In her memoir, Phillips called the relationship with her father “consensual.” But yesterday on “The Joy Behar Show,” she decided to “reframe” the situation saying, “I wouldn’t necessarily call it a consensual relationship at this time.” Keep reading »

Is “Consensual” Incest OK?

We were pretty shocked when Mackenzie Phillips published a book revealing that she had a decade-long sexual relationship with her father, John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas. But we were even more surprised when she defended it, saying she was raped initially but, later on, the acts were “consensual.” This whole thing sparked a huge debate about Genetic Sexual Attraction, or GSA. Genetic Sexual Attraction is an emotional and physical attraction between family members. The feelings often start after the two have been separated for a long time and, upon reuniting, find there is something, er, more between them. Most think it’s totes wrong but there is a vocal minority that says GSA is just misunderstood. I’ll present both sides, then you can tell us what you think! Keep reading »

(Another) Quote Of The Day: Bijou Phillips Doesn’t Know What To Believe

“When I was 13, Mackenzie told me that she had a consensual sexual relationship with our father. This news was confusing and scary, as I lived alone with my father since I was 3. I didn’t know what to believe, and it didn’t help that shortly there after Mackenzie told me it didn’t happen. Mackenzie’s history with our father is hers, but also clouded with 30 years of drug abuse. I hope she can come to terms with this and find peace. The life I had with my father was very different. He was Mr. Mom, encouraging and loving. The man that raised me would never be capable of doing such things, and if he was, it is heartbreaking to me to think that my family would leave me alone with him. I understand Mackenzie’s need to come clean with a history she feels will help others, but it’s devastating to have the world watch as we try and mend broken fences, especially when the man in question isn’t here to defend himself.”

Coming Soon To A Record Store Near You: John and Mackenzie Phillips Duets!

Holy inappropriate, Batman. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since “One Day at a Time” actress Mackenzie Phillips sat down on Oprah‘s couch and tearfully confessed that she had an incestuous relationship with her dad, John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas’ fame, for more than a decade that culminated in a pregnancy and subsequent abortion. And already, the keeper of John Phillips’ estate, a lawyer named Jeffrey A. Greenberg, has made a strange announcement. No, he hasn’t come out and said anything about the allegations. But he does want us all to know that he’ll be releasing an album of songs recorded by John and Mackenzie Phillips in the ’80s, when John decided to revive the Mamas & the Papas with Mackenzie and a few original bandmates. The album will be called either “Papa John and Friends” or “Many Mamas, Many Papas” and won’t be out until early next year, though Greenberg is looking to release a single soon. “Obviously, [John is] not around now to speak to any of this,” says Greenberg. “People will make up their own minds. I was a huge fan of his and my object is to hopefully make people aware of John’s music and his talent. In a perverse way, I guess, if there is a way to make lemonade out of the lemons, that would be good.” I don’t know, this album sounds pretty exploitative to me. And that photo above kind of turns my stomach. [Entertainment Weekly] Keep reading »
